Karukera Four Daughters 2011

Sherry cask sits right up front here — raisins, cherry and dried apricot over the grassy Karukera cane, with roasted wood, nuts and a touch of cinnamon. At 54.1% it stays balanced, but the finish turns dry and tannic. One taster called this the best sherry-and-Karukera integration they've had; a few felt it doesn't grab as hard as it should.

For me it remains consistently one of the finest karukera I have ever tasted! A perfect balance of sugar cane and sherry cask that gives this rum a perfect elegance and balance! It is one to drink every day and never get tired of it!

Tasty and very drinkable but now not necessarily the most complex agricole at all. If we were here priced at 60-70 € it would be fine but for the money's clearly more exciting overproof agricoles.

8,4:On the nose, we have a strong sherry barrel first impression, with dried fruits like raisins, cherry, roasted wood notes like leather, caramel, nuts and spicy cinnamon, it is interesting, as also some chemical hints come out(mosquito spray)... On aeration, the barrel impact is still strong with dried dates, apricots, perhaps yellow fruits and caramelized notes, confectionery and marzipan, hints of tobacco. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is delicious and balanced, syrupy with juicy sugarcane, grassy, sherry barrel impact with dried fruits like apricots, raisins, later figs, sour cherry and when oxidized, citrus fruits. The wood is roasted with cocoa, leather, spicy with pepper, vanilla. On aeration, the cane becomes herbaceous and dark with black tea, earthy with tobacco. 8,3:The finish is rather long, dry and tannic, slightly smoky and waxy, the notes from palate linger on, with some new addition. Edit:12.12.25

#4615 16.02.2024 Relaxing with an old friend I haven't seen for 10+ years. Always nice to enjoy a few good rums together. Nose Very nice, sherry, light wood, faint roasted, fruits, light mint, faint caramel. Palate Light wood, faint roasted, fruits, grass, light nutts, sherry. Finish Medium to long, light roasted wood, cherry, light caramel. Looking at the price tag at release I'd say the price tag was very good. A well balanced rum with a really nice profile overall. The empty glass has some leather, light herbs and strawberry.

Exciting combination of the classic Karukera profile with the influences from the sherry cask. Besides the dried fruits also with quite clear spiciness and toastiness.

The sherry finish comes through well, but is not overpowering. Really good!

18/07/2026: rum tasting @ Stijn. First time tasting an Agricole rhum with sherry maturation, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The sherry influence is instantly noticeable and rather dominant. Finish could be a bit longer though. Good Karukera!
