Velier Caroni Heavy Trinidad Rum HTR 1974
Tar, rubber and machine grease up front, then dark caramel, dried tropical fruit and a menthol coolness underneath — the full dirty Caroni signature from a 1974 cask, 34 years tropical, bottled at 66.1%. Tasters call it a monument, needing time to open but rewarding patience with a huge, oily body and an endless finish. A few felt it just misses the depth of the best 1996 releases.

A Caroni as it’s supposed to be – loads of dirt and dark notes from nose to finish. Tropical fruits and sweetness like burnt sugar are only barely noticeable. Instead, there’s lots of tar, rubber, wood, mint/menthol, leather, and black tea. The alcohol, as expected, is perfectly integrated. For me, probably the best rum I’ve ever had in a glass!

this is blasphemy! this is madness! THIS IS CARONI!!!

This one is heavy and I took down a note on it besides the fact that I loved the tannins in the finish and the Caroni flavours. I should have bought a few extra bottles when release because the cost has increased more than tenfold.

The best Caroni I've ever had in a glass. A masterpiece in all its glory. It is worth it.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting: A board! Dirty Caroni notes paired with a light fruity sweetness. Long finish! My favorite of the vintages 1974-1983!

Absoluter Wahnsinns Caroni. Alkohol perfekt eingebunden. Mein bislang bester Caroni.

Incredible nose, I could sniff this rum for hours. Very heavy in the mouth as well, extremely woody but in a good way. 2nd tasting: adding one point.

Einfach in allem etwas besser. Update nochmal gegen den the Last, Kirsch und Fire verkostet. Im Geruch war er tatsächlich der Schwächste. Aber die Cremigkeit war wirklich einzigartig.

I will have to try it again at my leisure, but at our tasting I found it simply outstanding. A really rarely elegant Caroni, which for me is a mixture of LTR and HTR, especially on the nose. In the mouth, the rum goes down like oil, I have rarely found a Caroni to be so smooth and delicious without it being able to hide which distillery it comes from. I'm going to have to rethink my prey scheme...... Thank you very much for this opportunity, he knows who is meant :)

A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Wuchtig, geschmacksgewaltig. Das ist die Essenz von Caroni. Alle klassischen Caroni Noten in großer Intensität

What a bomb on nose. Elegant and nuclear at the same time. Taste is balanced, powerfull, but well integrated, creamy and smooth and still Caroni tor and rubber style, I love it. Long harmonious finish with spice, wood, butter. One of the best rums for me.
Review by GigiMartini
More balanced than I expected. Hydrocarbons on the shields, but with lots of red fruits in the background.

Wow! What a bomb, at first the nose is really keeping back. some young bourbon wood, like the 85's there is no age in the wood smell. and than an explosion, of tar, Rubber, medicinal notes, menthol sensations and again young wood. A killer Caroni, and probably for me the best of the really old (pre 90s) vintages. Amazing!
