Diamond & Port Mourant El Dorado Blended In The Barrel SV PM 2010

Guyana fans curious about a barrel-blended SV/Port Mourant will get the most from this one. Expect caramel, burnt sugar, vanilla and dark chocolate over a woody, herbal, faintly minty base. The Diamond side dominates, so don't expect the classic PM aniseed. Several tasters call it "easy sipping" but a touch too sweet, with a bit of bitterness and some sharp alcohol on the finish.

Caramel-sweet Guyana blend, Diamond-forward Well-liked but not a standout: caramel-sweet, herbal and drinkable, though the Diamond overshadows the Port Mourant and a few find it too sweet with a bitter, slightly hot finish.

SV is most prominent in this one. The caramel (included in the cask with aging with this mark) comes through in nose and taste. N:Caramel. Burnt (sugar), woody..a bit French oaky. Full bodied but also fresh. Hint of rubber. Interesting for sure. The Port Mourant part is adding the freshness I guess. But the sum of parts does create something new. T: quite sweet at first. Burnt sugar still. A bit bitter. Nice marriage between wood, cacao powder, freshness and berries (not unlike some TDL or New Grove). Don't get the typical PM aniseed vibe. SV is dominant. Finish: medium. Bitter. Molasses. Dry. Eucalyptus/minty. Better than expected. Still overpriced in the beginning. A max of 120eu would be better.

Nose is brooding with licorice, dark chocolate and leather. Mouth is easy and approachable, a hint of cayenne pepper with sweet and herbal notes. Finish a tad bitter with sweet caramel and wood. Hint of leather. It’s a solid rum, nothing special but enjoyed it

Easy sipping dorado blend. I am positively surprised. Very drinkable. Could just have a little more steam! 🤷🏼‍♂️ The price-performance ratio could be better, but it's definitely tasty. Slight points deducted for the bitterness in the finish.

Rumfest finally gave me the chance to taste these much-maligned bottles. Yes, it's (very) expensive for ten-year-old rum, despite the tropical aging, and that's my biggest complaint. It's quite full-bodied, perhaps a little too much so, given El Dorado's usual caramel character. But in the end, it's good, like El Dorado 21 (2020 version) only a little better. The bottles are pretty close to each other, but they're blends, so that explains it too. All in all, I think these bottles, priced at around €100, would be a good deal for discovering some nice Guyanese blends that are pleasant and accessible, without going for something very specific. Maybe that was the idea, but unfortunately it's too expensive. I didn't particularly like this one.

Brussels Rhum Festival 2024: Sehr schön ausgewogen mild und würzig. Leicht Minzig/Kräuterig. Mittellanger Abgang. Nicht schlecht aber das Geld würde ich anders anlegen ;)

Was relaxing yesterday so I decided to open this little baby. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed because this rum is dominated by the Diamond destilate that you basically cent get the Port Mourant part. I'd hoped that due to this unique way if blending (both are added to the barrel right after being destilled and then matured), that it would be a really nice blend.
