Cave Guildive West Indies Barbados Rum 2000
Whisky drinkers curious about rum will feel at home here — this 2000 WIRD Rockley confused half the blind tasters into guessing Jamaica or Fiji. Peaty smoke, honey, herbal tea and a medicinal-bitter edge, with caramel and raisin on a creamy palate. Several call it a "weirdest Bajan" — no coconut, plenty of funk. The 56% shows a touch of bite.

How does Cave Guildive West Indies Barbados Rum 2000 taste?
Aggregated from 49 community reviews.
Smoky, honeyed Rockley that fools whisky fans Loved for its odd, smoky-honey Rockley character that fools people in blind tastings. Most enjoy the complexity; a few find it slightly one-dimensional and hot next to older WIRD bottlings.

RumX Advent calendar 21.12.21: Confusion on multiple levels 😂 I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew the rum, searched the app thoroughly, but found nothing. After the reveal, it became clear to me. I had already had the rum, but hadn’t noted it in the app 🤦🏼♂️ So… didn’t recognize it. Confusion also during the tasting (this was my first Rockley so far). I didn’t find the nose very nice. Very vegetal (I know that from Savannas). In the mouth, though, it was nice, complex, and had a very unique aroma profile. In the mouth, I was then reminded of Worthy Park. Edit: Overall an exciting dram with a lot to discover. I like it more and more the longer I taste it. Sweet, thick, round, and multi-layered.

Very unusual Barbados rum! Chamomile-herbal tea with black smoky cardamom, hints of whisky, a bit of honey & beeswax, and dark, roasted nutty notes. The finish turns bitter and astringent. Still interesting and clearly recognizable as Rockley style, even if not 100% my thing.

Solid Barbados rum with a classic profile. On the nose, vanilla, caramel, and ripe fruit, accompanied by a subtle wood note. On the palate, round and well-balanced with hints of toffee, spice, and a touch of citrus. The alcohol is well integrated, the structure harmonious, though a bit restrained. Overall cleanly composed, pleasant to drink, but without much depth.

Follow-up to yesterday's Rum-Depot tasting: poured the rest of the Plantation for comparison with the Cave Guildive WIRD 2000. Both have a smoky, peaty base note, plus that Rockley honey hint. But the Plantation also has fruity notes like nectarine or mango and vanilla. The CG feels a bit more one-dimensional and also a bit sharp. The higher ABV (56%) of the CG doesn't really help. On the palate, it's the opposite. The Plantation, with its 47.8%, unfortunately feels a bit thin (just like the RA WIRD 2000). Because of the great nose, the Plantation remains my winner.

Pub LiQ Bar Düsseldorf March 2025. Second to last, there's a Cave Guildive from Barbados. I find this rum underrated. Nice smoky and herbal nose. On the palate, besides the smoke, we also get honey and caramel.

05.04.2024 Mount Gay Extreme Rare online tasting mit Dirk. Retasting and I stick to my score. Again this one needs to rest and the result is a very smooth and elegant rum with perfect ABV integration. ----------------------- A wonderful rum staying true to Barbados and its flavours. Woody with fruit and spices from nose to finish. Medium complex wit a little caramel. I do like the oily roasted/smoky touch on the palate. Price to quality is very good.

Tasted at the 12th GRF in Berlin: Typical 2000s WIRD, the Rockley profile is there, though less pronounced than in the 86. Quite tasty, but a bit pricey for me. Update 14.07.24: In a cross-tasting with the RA, it was a neck-and-neck race. Fresh in the glass, the RA was ahead, but with more time the Cave Guildive shows its strength and just barely pulls ahead. Of course, it can't even come close to the 86s, but at least the profile is right. Still a nice sipper for in between, if you can get it at a good price.

Sehr guter, typischer 2000er WIRD.

Nose: the first sniff is hitting me with brine, olives and a touch of saltiness, in a pleasant combination. It slowly evolves into a slightly funky, more herbaceous profile. Palate: I still sense some of the brine and olive, but really in the background, along with those herbal funkiness. Doesn’t feel like a particularly high proof, maybe 52-ish, o maybe just well integrated Finish: medium finish, again with that herbal note and possibly some citrus zeist in there.

RumX-Adventskalender, 21.12., blind.

Very nice nose with honey, fruits and vanilla (rise) pudding accompanied by some herbs and spices. Has the upper hand compared to the RA 2000 Rockley, given a little higher intensity based on higher ABV.

RumXmas #21, blind: This is not something I’m familiar with whatsoever. I’m having a hard time trying to analyze it, but I had risotto with Brussels sprouts and a glass of red wine and I bit my tongue 🤦♂️ So it’s like everything has some iron influence at the moment 😅 A lot of whiskey notes in the nose for me with peaty smokiness. Barbados, really?! Wow, would have never guessed that. Weirdest Bajan for me so far. Feel a bit relieved noticing there are other people that made a whisky connection in their tasting notes 😜

21. Tag im RX Kalender. Mein Tip war ein Savanna. Geruch: Honig, Karamell, Gewürze, Zimt, Piment, Kardamom.

Funky and weird, propably Rockley, but not my taste.
