Foursquare Mystique Private Cask (The Whisky Exchange)
Most tasters land in the "excellent Foursquare" camp, but this one gets called out for being unusually intense — more sherry, more oak, more tannin than the softer Seale bottlings. Expect caramel, roasted nuts, coconut and dried fruit, with a wood-and-spice bitterness. One member found it "dreckig" (a bit dirty) with almost-funky ripe stone fruit. Others just wish it were less hot.

How does Foursquare Mystique Private Cask (The Whisky Exchange) taste?
Aggregated from 35 community reviews.
Intense, sherry-and-oak Foursquare at cask strength Widely liked as one of the better recent Foursquares, sherry- and oak-forward with real punch. A few find the 62% too present or the finish slightly flat, and it splits people on intensity.

nah this rum is crazy . it’s worth the money . the nose is so brilliantly balanced between a wonderful treacle/caramel component with a healthy dose of blackberry starburst and stewed apples , all backed by a soft edge of coconut and slight hint of oak. The palate is spice galore at first, it starts gingery and slightly cinnamony , then proceeds into a dreamy combination of toffee and tobacco box reminiscent flavors. All of this is so beautifully combined with a pineapple/blackberry fruitiness that lingers longingly on the finish and a slight bit of spice and oak that surfaces but does not overpower the finish. Incredible and might ruin my bank account. This is a life changing rum for me.

Die Nase wittert sofort die Foursquare-Herkunft. Könnte auch ein Doorlys 14y sein. Im Geschmack dann schön tief und komplex. Toffee, Haselnuss-Röstaromen, Vanille, Karamell. Alkohol wirklich gut eingebunden. Schöner langer Abgang. Die Vanille entlässt einen sanft in den Abend.Toller Rum!

#4594 29.01.2024 Relaxing at home with this nice sample I received today. A rather intensive rum wich settles a bit with a few drops of water. This is a pretty different profile with a lot of punch. I like it a lot but I think this one will split the waters a bit. Rest for a long time or add a few drops of water. The tannins are close to taking the first row here ☺️ Nose Intense, balanced, wood, light roasted, berries, faint mint, light caramel, light sherry notes. Palate Lightly oily, balanced, complex, wood, medium roasted, tannins, fruity, light mint, faint caramel. Finish Warm, wood, light roasted, tannins, dried fruit. The empty glass has some light chocolate and light camphor notes. Will see if I can get my hands on a bottle.

A very good Foursquare. Very drinkable despite its high ABV. Basically normal FS markers. The finish has more fruity, peachy notes which I like. Even slightly dirty flavors are there. Only the finish seems a little flat.

Good and despite its 62% drinkable Foursquare. The sherry cask is perceptible, but not too dominant for me. Otherwise, the typical FS DNA with coconut, caramel and spices. I like it very much.

Great Foursquare, 2 cl are sipped away very quickly here. The risk of topping up is enormous. Typical Foursquare aromas are accompanied by intense roasted aromas and dark fruits. A slightly longer finish and a more intense "oily" mouthfeel would put this Foursquare in the top class for me.

This rum showcases the classic Foursquare style with elegance and intense richness. The nose opens with layers of nuts, tea, and fruity notes like apricot and plum, along with subtle hints of coffee and chocolate. The palate reveals dark chocolate, crème brûlée, and a touch of citrus balanced with creamy toffee, adding a pleasant sweetness. The finish is long and satisfying, with notes of orange, honey, and wood. An impressive and elegant rum that embodies Foursquare’s renowned quality.

I find the Mystique quite intense in terms of the sherry influence, but also in terms of the tannins and the wood and the associated bitterness. You have to like it, but in my opinion it stands out positively from the rather unspectacular Foursquare Shibboleth and Covenant. Personally, I'm happy to be able to get a bottle here thanks to the community.

Wow, quite a board for a Foursquare! On the nose, light sherry and dark fruit, very strong impressions of wood and roasted elements. On the tongue it's really round, a very room-filling bouquet, you unconsciously want to puff out your cheeks. Comes with the typical FS notes, but also rather dirty and with a lot of bang, not as pleasing as one is used to with Seale's distillates. The finish is almost fruity, reminded me of an overripe nectarine, almost funky

The pleasant aroma of red fruits and berries brings a very fresh note to the familiar Foursquare spectrum - I like it very much, it actually offers new flavor nuances that fit perfectly into the overall profile.

For the first time in a long time a Foursquare that really convinces me. Typical Foursquare notes, supplemented by significantly more caramel, light roasted notes, tannins,... Nice thing. You could treat yourself to a bottle again.

For me, the winner today against the 2011 and the Covenant. Overall the most balanced. The influence of the oak barrel is noticeable here too, but it is much rounder than the Covenant. I quite like the sherry note.

Somewhat metallic, lacks a little depth. Quite alcoholic in the finish and lots of column.
