Velier Royal Navy Tiger Shark
Give it half an hour in the glass and it transforms. Straight from the bottle it can seem hot and a touch woody, but resting brings out banana, dried figs, tobacco, dark chocolate and burnt sugar. It's a British pot-still blend where heavy Guyana wood leads and Jamaican esters flicker underneath. Several tasters rank it among the best navy blends they've had.

How does Velier Royal Navy Tiger Shark taste?
Aggregated from 296 community reviews.
Woody, spicy navy blend that rewards patience Most people call it one of the top navy blends around: complex, spicy, woody, with well-integrated alcohol. It needs air to open up, and the Guyana dominance isn't for everyone.

A Blend that represents the best in English rum. The influence of the different origins is felt, with an expressive nose on Jamaica (solvents, ester, tropical and ripe fruits), Guyana (caramel, sweetness, vanilla) and Trinidad (tar). The mixture is perfectly executed. The palate is carried on spices, chili, wood, tobacco and fruits, giving a heavy and intense profile. The finish is long, savory, with salty, burnt sugar and black tea notes on top. A simply luscious rum.

Great rum! If you want to find fault in every way then I say mixing rums from different distilleries is an interesting attempt, but in my humble opinion it breaks the magic a bit.

Retasting this particular rum again. This time it's the 2nd release and it retains the score. This is a really nice and well balanced rum. I discovered that the longer it rested the more flavours were released. After 30 minutes in the glass it has reached its peak which is close to heaven. The proof has been nicely integrated into the blend and you barely get a burn from the alcohol. A great rum and the price tag matches the quality.

Very heavy on the Guyanese Pot Stills accompanied by some fruity notes from Jamaica
Review by Thunderbird

The little brother of the grandiose Old Navy Rum from Velier. Very tasty with dominant Clarendon notes. Guyana also stands out. I'm looking in vain for Trinidad here. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish cannot keep up with the palate experience. A great rum!

Good rum, but for me the predecessor clearly wins. Versailles dominates. The refined Caroni base is unfortunately missing.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Nice fruity, spicy, woody, toasty and slightly sweet, but also tea and tobacco. Very pleasant. Intense full body on the palate and yet soft, matching the nose. Great blend. Absolutely recommended.
Review by MarcT
First Tasting was a bit overwhelming, the second one comes with more flavor and wood. Completely different to Pussers and Black Tot. Some drops of water also tempered the astringency, and brought some sweetness and fruit. Had this in the calendar as well, and realized this needs time to breathe and open up, obviously.

Difficult story for me, this 🥃 It is strong, intense like many Veliers, it tastes like Navy Rum. Great quality and balance in the many flavors that come at you. An endless nose to lie in, good full bodied but balanced palate. I have never tasted such good and complex craftsmanship out of an alcohol. Actually top. Unfortunately, something still sticks out in the palate and on the tongue that totally contradicts me, which clouds the experience badly. Have now then the bottle empty but have unfortunately not found out what it is (possibly something with the bitterness still present). Therefore, a not so good rating from me🥲

The nose is both lively and subdued, spicy, vegetal (fresh tobacco) with old wood, dried fruit and leather. The palate is soft on entry, and the aromas immediately take over. A little spiciness/spiciness in the mid-palate masks the fruit a little, then the finish, elegant and smooth, long and complex, puts everyone in agreement. In direct comparison with Velier's Navy Rum RX26 and Black Tot 2020 RX4513, it seems a tiny bit weaker. But an excellent Navy Rum nonetheless!

9:On the nose, the first impression we get is very tempting with esters, tropical, dried fruits and roasted wood with nuts, caramel, vanilla. Some solvents are inevitable, but luckily in the background, as the molasses breaks through them easily. An aeration brings more metallic and tarry notes and differnt kind of fruits like unripe banana, raspberry, lemon peel, as molasses is dark with herbal notes, licorice, black tea and tobacco. Very balanced and round. 9:On the palate, the first attack is very intense, spicy and with the roasted wood. The storm quickly calms down as the rum becomes very balanced and round with its complexity as our tasting buds are swimming in delicious gemischt of vegetal, dark molasses notes as black tea, tobacco, mint, then earthy, toasted and a bit dry, tannic wood, dried figs and dates, overripe tropical fruits, some lime peel, as banana is unripe.Nicely sweet with some brown sugar, cream toffee, licorice and lastly a bit flowery. 8,9:The finish is very long, dry, with spicy and roasted, toasted, musty wood, molasses still dark, a bit bitter with black tea, tobacco, there are dried fruits, citrus and nice spectre of medicinal notes as tar and plastic.Flowers swim underneath. Edit:15.2.25 delicious, up 0,1

Very balanced Navy rum that offers something of everything. Only Wehrmutströpfchen is the comparatively too strong finish despite the mild nose. The aftertaste is but again super pleasant, in addition to fruity citrus notes, just the right amount of spicy smokiness that remains very long on the palate.

In the Navy Blend Blind Tasting, the Tiger Shark came out on top. The nose in particular is simply inviting and constantly releases new aromas. Both on the nose and on the palate, the Guyana part dominates for me with heavy aromas. Super navy blend with a very good PLV!!!

Got to taste this rum again today and raise it .4 points since last time. Really good. - Just got my own bottle and this is really good and I’m staying at my previous 8,9. - New day and it stays this time too.

RumX Advent Calendar 16.12.2021, blind And also already on 6.12.2020 in Alex's Christmas calendar. Blind!First impression: could be a Foursquare in the quality of a Sassafras, on the other hand...A blend of Jamaica and Guyana is already clear by the nose:Ester and neat spicy, solvent and sulfur. Fruity with sour cherry dried apricot, some pineapple and a hint of ripe banana. Spicy with vanilla, nutmeg, leather and wood. Tart sweetness of caramel and a bit of menthol.Strong spicy again on the palate with anise, nutmeg, sulfur iodine, salty bitter. Fruity with dark cherry and some plum. Woody, toffee and tidy tannins. Very nice, high quality blend.

New tasting quite different from the first one.I found a rather greedy and sweet nose, slightly woody, spicy and loaded in esters quite in accordance with what I remembered. In mouth, the first sensation is very woody and spicy then leaves slowly the place to more greediness with a slightly burnt sweetness. The finish is rather long and very appreciable.

very exciting blend. flambé banana, citrus jam, neat allspice, clove and some menthol and in the finish smoky tar and strong black tea. very round thing.

I pushed my "pain threshold" further with this bottle. But I haven't regretted it for a moment. Perhaps a little "tame" for a navy rum - but a little more accessible and definitely an absolute recommendation. Especially for the price.
