Habitation Velier Haiti Pure Single Rum 2021
Coming in at 59%, this unaged Haitian cane-juice pot still is quieter than you'd expect — the nose stays a bit closed, with fresh sugarcane, citrus and a plasticky "polish" note some love and some find off-putting. The palate turns salty, vegetal and medicinal (iodine, herbs), with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Rustic and briny rather than showy.

How does Habitation Velier Haiti Pure Single Rum 2021 taste?
Aggregated from 18 community reviews.
Salty, vegetal Haitian cane, oddly subdued Divides people: fans get lovely cane, citrus and coastal salt, but several find it oddly synthetic and flat for the strength, and better neat than in a daiquiri.
Clairin fans who want a salty, vegetal, high-proof cane spirit

Next to a Sajous and a PMG, the nose is a little more closed, but the cane is still very beautiful, quite vegetal but well-balanced. After the cane, citrus fruits make their appearance, leading to a more gourmand profile. The palate is lively and fresh. Then the palate becomes a little spicier, while retaining a rather suave freshness. There's a hint of the sea, probably brought on by the pot still. The finish is relatively long and still a little spicy, moving towards a slightly more bitter profile. A very fine sugarcane distillate!

#4884 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Fresh, vegetal, light grass, fruits, citrus, sugarcane, light polish, light medicinal, faint herbal. Palate Oily, balanced, sugarcane, light salty, light medicinal, light herbs, medium dry, citrus. Finish Medium long, round, oily, light fruits, citrus, medium dry, sugarcane, light salty. Not too bad a release and I wonder what the release price will be.

Already a certain complexity, alcohol well integrated. Some yellow fruit, discreet notes of varnish, marzipan.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A rather atypical and somewhat frustrating clairin. The nose is paradoxically powerful but closed, opening up mainly synthetic aromas first with polish and medicinal notes. Alcohol, sugarcane and herbs follow, with a hint of spice adding fuel to the nose. A slightly confusing but not spectacular profile. The attack on the palate starts off rather well, with medicinal, salty and iodized notes, which bring a little freshness with the sugarcane and herbal notes. There's a hint of citrus, roasted and slightly spicy notes, as well as a trace of bitterness. The profile, a little oily on the palate, is somewhat unbalanced and not very deep. The alcohol is a little pungent; a reduction wouldn't hurt here. The finish is of decent length, a little rough and rugged, with quite a few medicinal, salty, spicy, spicy and roasted notes. Leather and sugarcane are also present, the whole being rather pungent and bitter from the finish. A clairin that is too limited for pure tasting. On the other hand, it will be easier to match in mixology.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024. A lively, straightforward nose with fruit, dried herbs, almond and nougat. The palate is bitter, with medicinal herbs and dried herbs. Not a rum very much to my taste, but far from uninteresting with its powerful aromas.

Interesting distillate that certainly works in various cocktails. Unfortunately, however, nothing that I enjoy neat.

Extremely resinous and herbal on the nose. The taste is then slightly salty, bitter and herbal after iodine, licorice and salt lemons and sugar cane. Quite nice but not a highlight. Also somewhat insignificant in the daiquiri... I had hoped for more.

Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and a bit heavy palate, sorry :) Here we have: a heap of plastic... A rum: rather chemical, a little cane and fruit, but impossible to detach from this weird, disturbing plasticity. Finish: short I suppose it's a bias, but I didn't like it...

This feels like a subdued version of a Clairin which is not what I expected at this strenght. There are lots of rums at 40% with more flavor. Definitely not bad but it seems unspectacular. For this money I would buy two bottles of something else. Not really my cup of tea. Reminds me too much of an aged Grand Arome with that rubber taste.

Nose: Flat. Some medicine, iodine, plastic, aloe, bandage, salt water. Taste: Sweet, sharpness. Some leather, iodine, vegetables, pills, oil. Aftertaste: medium-short. Bittersweet, some medicinal, herbs.
