#7107 31.07.2026 Relaxing with some samples while celebrating that I passed 500 km of walking this month. Listening to some old Armin van Buuren tracks on Spotify. Very good rum especially when looking at the price tag (my friend brings home these rums from his travels). A very punchy profile, but it is also a rum for mixing that does really well as a sipper. Intense profile with fruits, sugarncae, mineral, light smoke and nice spices.

Nice and intense agricola da Madeira by Engenhos do Norte. Long story short, I like it, but it didn't really catch my atrention. It has a typical vegetal/floral notes of a sugar cane juice distillate accompanied by some fruitiness and hints of bitter apricot stone nuts. Alcohol is well integrated, although I could feel kind of a chilli burn on my tongue, which is understandable.

Madeira rums are full of surprises, and this is one of them. The profile is atypical for a rum made from pure cane juice, with pronounced meaty, smoky notes, overlaid with fragrant hints of thyme and tomato, all seasoned with a little salt, pepper and a touch of sugar cane. It's an original, well-executed profile. The attack on the palate is rather intense but balanced. There's a smoky, spicy side (pepper, chili), as well as a grassy, vegetal side with hints of sugarcane and tomato. There's also a slight hint of caramel, rounding out a profile that's already complete and well mastered. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is of good length, with an earthy but also herbaceous side of black tea and cane. Spices return in full force, accompanied by toasty notes that dissipate as the tasting progresses. An atypical, well-crafted profile that can only pique our interest in discovering other rums from this region with such a singular terroir.

Oooofff, this is cracking for a white overproof rum. Nose is a bit muted but rewards you if you dig, peanut brittle, sugarcane moving to lead and a hint of meat. Mouth is fresh and lively, with strawberry, straw, and some expresso at the back end. The finish has light and spicy notes, with licorice and black tea finishing with a spiced coffee element. For a column still rum it is super well balanced and smooth. I’ll be hunting out a bottle, expect it will make a cracking daiquiri

Tasting 23-02-2024 This is a sample from a tasting set from Harold and Hansa in the UK . I have been impressed with what's been coming out in Madeira so excited to try at 60% . The nose is not overwhelming but seems a normal agricole type which is surprising as it's dialled up to 60% .. the grass hits you hit not much more .. The tasting is much better as the notes develop into slight overripe fruit and finishes with the delicious grass,fennel & pepper
