Velier Casimir Vieux Casimir (First Release) 2015
"A tamed Clairin, reined in by the cask" is how one taster put it — this is an aged Haitian cane-juice rum built on herbal, grassy funk. Expect glue, overripe pineapple, citrus and a genuinely odd fruit-yoghurt note, plus roasted, nutty oak. Several found the alcohol a touch sharp on the finish. Divisive: some love the complexity, others shrug.

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is vegetal and fruity with a lot of esters, a whiff of glue.There are overripe tropical, dried fruits, herbal notes and hay.It is very round and balanced. The wood is roasted with nuts and caramel. On aeration citrus fruits arise, the pineapple is sweet and ripe, as the sugarcane mineral, the wood becomes earthy.There are creamy confectionery notes, the caramel is candied, the yoghurt is with dried fruits. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is malty, whisky like, estery with overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, some citrus with orange and vegetal with an olive, all sweet, creamy, delicious, covered with honey.The wood is spicy, dry, earthy and roasted with nuts, cream toffee, candied caramel. The sugarcane is mineral. Sometimes we get an impression of tasting fruit yoghurt.After some rest, more herbal notes and licorice are present. 8,7:The finish is sweet, dry, the sugarcane is mineral, juicy, herbal, the wood earthy and spicy, tropical fruits and citrus are ripe... Grundsätzlich gefallen mir die Rums aus Haiti sehr. Dieser Rum wurde im Vorfeld sehr gehyped. Er wird seinem Hype überhaupt nicht gerecht. Schon an der Nase sehr alkoholisch stechend, was sich am Gaumen, bis zum Abgang durchzieht. Dreckiges Peofil mit vergorenen hellen Früchten und Zitrone. Floral bitter.

Holt mich vom Profil eher nicht ab … bin eher weg vom Rum aus Zuckerrohrsaft und das bestätigt sich hier wieder. Meine Wertung ist also mit Vorsicht zu genießen, da ich einfach nur noch Melasse Rums trinke. Tendenziell haben mir aber die Sajous (aus der Erinnerung) besser gefallen. Der hier hat eine komische Fruchtjoghurt-Note.

The nose is still primarily rather fruity and is almost reminiscent of strawberry cream yoghurt😄 Unfortunately, there is a slight whisky touch here, which is more of a turn-off for me. Strangely sweet, sour, salty and musty and smoky at the same time. I don't warm to it at all sorry. The alcohol could also be better integrated. I still don't understand the hype about it.

Köln-Bonner-Rumtasting: Die 8 Jahre im Fass spürt man zumindest in der Nase nicht. Neben den typischen Markern viel Joghurt und Kräuter. Im Gaumen erstaunlicherweise Ester. Alkohol gut eingebunden, aber keine Granate

Als großer Freund des Vieux Sajous war ich sehr gespannt auf diesen Kandidaten, der leider an den Kollegen nicht heran reicht. Sehr angenehme Agricole Noten in der Nase und am Gaumen, erdig und grasig - wir er sein soll. Aber im Abgang leider ein wenig zu alkoholisch, phenolisch.

Mi aspettavo qualcosa in più ma tutto sommato e’ molto equilibrato sia al naso che al palato. Al bicchiere si presenta con un colore non troppo scuro ed e’ abbastanza viscoso. Molto profumato, sa di frutta molto matura e l’alcol e’ molto integrato, puoi annusare per molto tempo senza avere alcun tipo di fastidio, molto piacevole! Al palato la frutta si sente molto e l’alcol risulta sempre ben integrato e molto gradevole! Il finale e’ un po’ corto e lo oebanalizza un po’. L’invecchiamento in ex whisky ( benriach) a mio avviso e’ riuscito molto bene! Ottimo dram a mio modesto parere personale ed e’ una bevuta non troppo impegnativa, lo si può bere spesso anche se gli esteri si sentono e sono abbastanza ma risulta il tutto molto integrato.

Eins vorweg: 8 Jahre tropisch kann ich mir hier kaum vorstellen, weder farblich noch geschmacklich. In der Nase recht ansprechend und mit, wie bei den meisten Clairins, tollem Mundgefühl. Das Profil ist jedoch etwas eigenartig: Florale Töne, recht viel natürliche Süße, dazu etwas leicht Getreidiges (vom Whisky-Fass?). Holt mich in Summe nicht wirklich ab, und schon gar nicht für den Preis.
