Australia isn't where most people go looking for great rum, and this Beenleigh keeps surprising the people who try it. Yellow fruit, citrus marmalade, chocolate and marzipan up front, then toasted oak, spice and a genuinely unusual grappa/Obstler herbal streak several tasters couldn't stop mentioning. At 64.8% the alcohol reads mostly well-integrated, though a few found the heat too much without a drop of water.

Australian Rums Tasting, Rum Club Switzerland et Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 19. Un nez vanillé/boisé avec de la banane, des fruits jaunes, un peu faible mais avec un bel équilibre. Comme un petit peu chocolaté. L’entrée de bouche est assez puissante avec une amertume intéressante, les fruits et les autres arômes sont parfaitement soutenus par le bois. La finale est plutôt longue, équilibrée, bois et vanille, fruits secs et herbes sèches. Un rhum équilibré et raffiné mais il lui manque la générosité du Guildive. Un petit côté sale, à la fin lui donne une profondeur supplémentaire.

This is a real power house! A solid beenleigh from start to the end! But i liked the first edition from Rum Club a lot better! The ABV is integrated good, but not as good as the first bottling. Also due to the longer aging, this is woodier and furrier…

8,7:On the nose, the first impression we get are grassy tones with tropical and citrus fruits, as the wood is roasted with caramel, chocolate, pastry and spice. The molasses is vegetal as we saw, later, when aired, flowery. Aeration does its job, as fruits become estery, overripe, bourbon yellow fruits join the game, as some toasted coconut, there are remnants of burnt sugar also...Round, balanced. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity and woody, as our tasting buds are attacked with orange, yellow fruits and tropical overripe with banana, mango.The wood is spicy with clove and pepper and roasted, toasted with sweet, buttery, caramelized pastry, nuts, marzipan, chocolate and resinous after some rest.The molasses is with resinous wood bitter, vegetal and herbal.Later, we could taste some apple, pear, the rum becomes waxy and a bit metallic. 8,6:The finish is dry, woody with spices and tannins, pecans, vanilla and cocoa, the fruits are dried and green, there is fresh, vegetal molasses with tea. The integration of alcohol is very good... Edit:21.4.25, retains the grade, 1.7.25

Wow, this is really fun. Plenty of power in the nose and on the palate - without being too strenuous. There's a pleasant fruit brandy/grappa note on the palate that I've never had in a rum before. Exciting bottling!

Today 5 Australians in the glass. 1st Rum Club 14 yr: light fruity, very present on the palate with a medium-long finish. 84 pts. 2nd Rom Deluxe no. 40 15yr: Already quite different from the first Rum Club. Much drier. Also very fruity, although the fruit here is rather dark berry. The finish is unfortunately a little mettalic. 85 pts. 3rd Rum Club no. 40 16 yr: Similar to the first Rum Club, only with more wood and much drier. Although not as dry as the Rom Deluxe. I don't think the alcohol is well integrated here. 80 pts. 4th RA 2007 15 yr: Very similar in profile to the first Rum Club due to its dominant light fruits. However, this rum is much more intense and complex. An absolute firework display on the palate! Apricot, mirabelle plum and peach in such an intense form is impressive. If the finish were a little longer, this would be a terrific rum. But very good as it is! 88 pts. 5th Ferroni 2013: Absolutely not comparable with its colleagues. Totally barrel-driven. Very intense on the palate with dark fruits, wet wood and leather. If you like rums with a very strong barrel influence, this is the perfect companion for an evening by the fire. I like it too. 81 pts. I love the concise dryness of the Rom Deluxe. A piece of desert in the mouth =D It also stands out somewhat from the others thanks to its dark fruit. The two RCs and the RA are the most comparable, although the RA is by far the best for me.

#4510 07.12.2023 This is a wonderful and really well balanced rum once rested. The price tag is also really good. Fresh and fruity with a intense nose. The palate is oily and sweet with nice marzipan and citrus. The finish is very long and warm with dried fruit. Love the marzipan in the profile. Draws beautiful curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some caramel, vanilla and light chocolate.

Great Australia 2007! Eucalyptus on the nose, lots of citrus notes, some coconut and dark chocolate. Then incense, pear, apple, caramelized pecan nut and kumquat jam on the palate. The finish is reminiscent of Turkish apple tea, very tasty and creamy and pleasant!

A very fine Australian rum. The nose is very powerful, with fruity aromas: citrus (lemon), yellow and tropical fruit marmalade, coconut and maracuja give a colorful profile (and a high alcohol content, too). This is followed by spices, sweet notes (caramel, confit, marzipan, pastries), toast, chocolate and wood, all enhanced by a delicate floral breeze. A complete, warm profile. The palate is very intense and fruity, with citrus fruits (lemon), marmalade, yellow and exotic fruits. The toasty woodiness and roasted notes of coffee, nuts and cocoa give a dry, powerful edge that warms the palate. A few spices, pastries and hints of alcohol (brandy) creep into a relatively complete, indulgent profile. The alcohol is well integrated into this aromatic, controlled profile. The finish is of medium length. However, there are quite a few very pleasant aromas, such as pear, apple, lemon, caramel, toasted oak, spices, cocoa, mocha and a few herbaceous notes. A slightly sweet warmth emerges in retro-olfaction. A complete, generous profile with guaranteed thrills.

Oh well, I really liked the last two Australians. But this one is my favorite without direct comparison! Super nice yellow fruits, despite the high percentages, the alcohol is perfectly integrated!

Rumclub No. 40 Australia, for me a really cool piece. Great nose consisting of chocolate, especially milk chocolate. Also roasted and spicy. The palate is also chocolate, as well as marzipan, baggage and spices. Alcohol perfectly integrated.

Wahrlich der beste Australier den ich bis dato im Glas hatte. Zitrusfrüchte, kombiniert mit Schokolade in Nase und Gaumen, dazu noch Holz, Gewürze und in der Nase Kokosnuss. Für die Süße sorgen Aromen von Karamell und Gebäck. Alkohol super eingebunden. Macht richtig Spaß der Rum! Retasting im Rahmen Arturs Adventskalender: Bin gar nicht mehr so überzeugt. Mir fehlt die Frucht und der Alkohol ist sehr kräftig. -5 Pkt

The 2007 Beenleigh from RA, RC (Ed.20), TRC were actually all quite good, although I liked the RA best so far. The new RC (Ed.40) fits in very well. If I go through my notes, the new RC comes more after the RA and less after the Ed.20. On the nose yellow fruits, herbs and vegetables, hazelnut, caramel. Strong and spicy on the palate. The high ABV is well integrated.

Wundervoll fruchtige Nase, dabei etwas feuchte Eiche und Zitrus. Im Mund fand ich ihn erst sehr lecker, mit der Zeit wurde mir diese intensive Ähnlichkeit zu Grappa aber zu viel. Langer Abgang wo nach mehreren Minuten angenehme Kräuter und Tee einsetzen. Hat ein bisschen was vom Rum Nation Réunion.

Richtig schöner Australier. Tolle Balance zwischen Frucht,Würze sowie süßlichen Noten. Besonders hervorzuheben für mich die schönen Gebäcknoten gepaart mit gelben Früchten/Zitrusmarmelade. Im Abgang schön trocken und würzig mit Marzipan. Spannend finde ich auch die kräutrige/Grappa ähnliche Note die den Rum schön abwechslungsreich macht. Solche Rums bereiten mir derzeit deutlich mehr Freude als der xte Hampden.

War leider kein direkter Vergleich zur Ed.20 möglich, aber aus meiner Erinnerung sehr ähnlich. Bleiben für mich die beiden besten Australier. Schöne Fruchtnoten von Apfel und Zitrusfrüchten. Relativ viel Säure, die aber dazu passt. Subtile feine Vanillenote. Der Alkohol ist ok eingebunden. Hab den Vorgänger auch nochmal etwas höher bewertet.

Komplex und ausgewogen. Er hat eine gute Textur und eine angenehme Gesamtkombo. Erinnert mich an etwas zwischen Eistee und Gummibären, ohne die krasse Süsse natürlich. Die Trockenheit ist für mich aber zu einnehmend, was auch am Alkoholgehalt liegen kann. Für mich keine Höchstnoten.

Etwas weniger fruchtig dafür würziger und im Finish auch etwas mehr in Richtung Kräuter und Tee. Der Rum braucht ein wenig wo sein Vorgänger zugänglicher war dafür ist der Alkohol hier hinten raus super eingebunden wo der Vorgänger sich hier doch deutlich bemerkbar gemacht hat. Im Direktvergleich bleibt Ed. 20 bei mir dennoch leicht vorne. Aber da Ed. 40 ein anderes Profil aufweist ist das auch Tagesform und Geschmackssache. Beide sind empfehlenswert.

Ausgezeichnete Nase, an der man lange verweilen kann. Im Mund wirkt der hohe Alkoholgehalt etwas zu mächtig, weshalb eine kleine Zugabe von Wasser eine gute Idee erscheint. Das Mundgefühl hinkt etwas hinterher, weshalb der Rum bei mir bei 8.6 hängen bleibt.

Im direkten Vergleich mit dem Cave Guildive (RX4629) ist die Nase sehr ähnlich. Die SoR-Abfüllung ist nicht ganz so fruchitg und bringt mehr Gewürze und Fass-Aromen mit. Am Gaumen schön würzig, intensiv und rund. Den hohen ABV empfinde ich nicht als störend.

L'alcool est ici trop présent pour moi. On est sur des arômes pâtissiers avec une pomme et des agrumes qui se promènent la dedans. Malgré l'alcool, la longueur en bouche n'est pas exceptionnel. Une petite réduction lui ferait peut-être du bien.

Schöner Australier, bei dem sich gelbe Früchte zu Anfangs mit Fassnoten und Schokolade hinten raus arrangieren. Für mich kein Komplexitätsmonster, aber ein sehr schön trinkbarer Rum von hoher handwerklicher Qualität.

Wow - ein ungewöhnlicher süsser und ausgewogener Australier. Das Profil ist nicht frei von Ecken und Kanten, wirkt aber deutlich runder als viele der Schwesterreleases. Hier versammeln sich fruchtige Frische, schwere Süsse von Gebäck- und Karamellnoten, herbe Fassnoten sowie pointierte Gewürzaromen von Anis, Lakritz und Pfeffer in einem stimmigen Gesamtbild.

Hab ihn als sample probieren dürfen und bin glücklich Uber die Entscheidung ihn erst zu testen. Man riecht schon den Alkohol und schmeckt ihn auch, wenn auch nicht übertrieben. Vordergrund für mich citrus und etwas florales. Gefolgt von süßen Gewürzen.

Integrated alcohol in the aroma, you can dip your nose deep into the glass. Sweetness, strong tangerines, chocolate, caramel, wood, vanilla. Considerable similarity to Foursquare. You can feel the strength of the alcohol on the tongue, but it's okay. The sweet fruity taste unfortunately goes away quite quickly in the finish.

RumClub ed. 40 Australia 2007, 16y, 64,8% Vs. Rum Artesanal Australia 2007, 15y, 67,5% U těchto dvou bottlerů zřídka narazíte na nedobrý rum. A výjimkou nejsou ani tyhle dvě Austrálie. Ta sice nepatří mezi top destinace, ale zrovna ročník 2007 přinesl jedny z nejlepších lahvování destilérie Beenleigh. Já osobně mám Austrálii velmi rád, je (velmi obecně) hodně ovocná, mísí se v ní tropické s kontinentálním ovocem, umí být jemná a svěží po květinách, ale taky naopak tmavá a "těžká" po dřevu, čokoládě, praženosti apod. Je prostě krásně rozmanitá. A to se děje i u těchto dvou. Zatímco Artesanal je výrazně svěžejší po ovoci, až takový marmeládový, RumClub přichází spíše s takovými cukrářskými tóny, sladkým kořením a čokoládou.
