Pellegrini Caroni Barangài Single Rare Cask 16 HTR 1997
Sipped neat, this is a 1997 Caroni with the usual diesel-and-tar signature, but softer and sweeter than most — the sherry cask left raisin and toffee behind. Trouble is, several tasters find it watery for 52%, and one flat-out says the sherry "conflicts the whole palate." Diesel fans still get their hit; just don't expect the loud, dry Caroni you might be after.

Diesel overload. Yet lovely.

Color: Golden brown to amber Aroma Intense and aromatic. Aromas of caramel and toffee, sandalwood and liquorice. Also orange. Taste: Sweet in the mouth. Spicy and very woody. Spicy, bitter and alcoholic. Also liquorice and some toffee. Slightly watered down. Finish: Medium length Dry, woody, bitter and alcoholic. 82 points For a Caroni, I don't like the taste of this one.

This is really a mixed bag of emotions. This has all the staple of a 1997 caroni, but somehow it feels quite watery despite the 52%. Also the sherry is not a good influence it conflicts the whole palate and overfuels the end of the tasting
