MHOBA Indlovu Bourbon & Brandy Casks (LMDW New Vibrations Collection) 2023
Sip this neat and give it 20-30 minutes to open. Up front it's all glue, solvent and esters — proper Jamaican-style funk from a South African cane-juice rum — then it settles into pineapple, honey, licorice and a bit of smoke. Members call it "très pâtissier et rond," and the bourbon-plus-brandy double maturation rounds off the sharp edges without killing the fruit.

How does MHOBA Indlovu Bourbon & Brandy Casks (LMDW New Vibrations Collection) 2023 taste?
Aggregated from 40 community reviews.
Funky cane-juice rum, pineapple and licorice Well-liked but not the darling of the three New Vibrations casks — a few tasters find it duller and the finish shorter than its siblings. Still lands around 81 with fans of Mhoba funk.

To be tasted more seriously with more time... But still a very fine product and a balance of aromas with the degree of alcohol.
Review by cigares
A rum tasted at the WLP. Nose of glue/solvents with earth and fruit in the background. The palate is quite lively, with a violent, earthy woodiness, but soon evolves into sweetness, smoke, fat and licorice. The finish is long on licorice and wood, followed by tropical fruit. The empty glass is rich and complex, a very fine rum with great expressiveness.

A very aromatic Mhoba... I really like it. The mixture of funk (esters/pineapple) and spices with vegetable parts, some wood and honey sweetness fits very well. The alcohol is very well integrated. It is soft and creamy on the palate. Everything fits

Mhoba is one of my all time faves in general. This one is really nice due to red fruit combo and scent of vanilla. Butter coming to dryness in mouth. Enjoyable :)

I find the good side of both maturations, very pleasant!

My favorite of the series! Typical Mhoba profile with nice discreet bourbon notes, whereby the fruitiness has not been lost.

Between the Umbila and the Umganu. No more

Dneska druhé ochutnání. Na poprvé vubec neochutnala a skončila s hodně průměrným hodnocením. Ale protože mam rad Mhoba rumy, dostaly druhou sanci. A he to výrazně lepsi.

After 20 minutes of rest, the smell is typically mhobic. Bourbon, technicolour, burnt caramel, fruit. First sip quite sharp, but it's good. There are no surprises. The flavor matches the aroma. The honey finish could be longer and it would like to mature.

Different, i.e. closer to South Africa, and somewhat more pleasing than the Umganu (RX17378). Interesting, distinct smoky note, not unlike the smell of the surrounding wooden box. I can confirm the previous average rating of 79 points. Tendency upwards, scraping the 80 points, which means "very good".

Today a small comparison test between the new Mhobas New Vibrations. My conclusion is that none of the 3 bottlings really convinced me completely. However, my ranking would be 1ST RX17377 2. RX17378 3. RX17376

Review by Jakob
Falls a bit in direct comparison with the other two barrels, seems a bit duller and restrained, which does not suit the profile particularly well in my eyes. Nevertheless, still on a great level.
Review by El Peludo
