Reunion-island fans who like their island floral character wrapped in real oak will feel at home here. The nose drifts from florals and thyme through cardamom and nutmeg into candied citrus and marmalade; the palate turns herbal and dry, with citrus, dried fruit and spice trading places before the wood takes over. At 58% the alcohol reads mostly integrated, though a couple of tasters found it fading toward the finish.

A traditional Isautier with fairly full and varied aromas, the nose taking a journey between floral notes and thyme, then making a stopover on spices (cardamom, nutmeg) before landing at its destination in tropical fruit, candied citrus and marmalade, all with a sweet, honeyed edge to boot. An olfactory journey that makes you want to return. The attack on the palate is a little more choppy, with herbaceous notes first, followed by citrus, dried and exotic fruits, before woody and spicy notes take over and finish the dance. There's a touch of alcohol on the cognac that lingers on the palate. The alcohol is fairly well integrated. The finish completes the harmony of aromas, with a predominance of herbal and spicy notes that leave a certain dryness on the palate (also partly due to the tannins). Dried and shelled fruits make themselves quite small at the end of this gustatory journey. A good cuvée from Isautier with undeniable qualities, but the profile seems to decrescendo as the tasting progresses, unfortunately.

Tasted live, I found it nice, more so than the Agricole version. I rediscovered the floral profile that I find so typical of Reunion Island, but with a marked woodiness. I thought it would make a good competitor to some Savannas.
