Isautier L’Apollonie 2023
Here's the surprise: this cane-juice rum from Reunion leans woodier than you'd expect for an agricole. Ten-plus years in oak give it toasted barrel, dark chocolate and coffee, with peach, raisin and candied orange underneath and a light herbal grassiness. Cask strength at 58%, and the palate turns properly dry and bitter — one taster called it "très gourmand" up front, then tannic and spicy on a long finish.

Round sweetness, nice spice, gallant wood impact - this quality slowly raises Isautier to the new insider tip. We're not going in the direction of the absolute rum Olympus, but for upscale drinking fun, we're in good hands here, even from a price-performance point of view.

Cette nouvelle version de l'Apolonie m'a paru plus convaincante que la précédente. Je la trouve plus fruitée, avec un boisé très marqué mais délicat. Les rhums vieux de la Réunion sont rarement ceux que je préfère mais ces Isautier sont vraiment sympas.
