The 2013 <>Hs seem to be a nice vintage. From memory a little less vibrant than the fabulous Nobilis but still very intense and tasty. Addon: Looking at a little 2013 <>H side-by-side today. On the nose the House of Cane bottling takes the crown with TCoR and Swells Constantia taking second place. The Nectar is the only real outlier, not able to compete with the pack. Roots comes with a bit more overripe notes, while TWJ is a bit stronger on solvent notes. Both are very nice as well. On the palate the crown goes to The House of Cane, again. Very high intensity with Hampden funk and fruits nicely balanced by some sweetness and cookie notes. CoR and TWJ both show an intense <>H profile as well, excellent. The SdS Constantia presents the most balanced profile. Very nice to drink indeed. Roots looses on the palate, unfortunately. There is a distinct note of lightly peated Whisky in the bottling. That’s not bad, but doesn’t benefit the rum imo. The Nectar, again, cannot fully win my heart. The cask presumably had less influence, leaving the bottling in a more alcoholic and less balanced state.

A powerful Hampden, to the point of being ethyllic. The nose evokes strong medicinal notes on esters and solvents, but also glue, varnish, fermentation and camphor. There's a buttery structure typical of mark <>H, but also pastry notes of marzipan and candied fruit. Yellow and tropical fruits and citrus are also part of the decor. The funk comes through easily in this profile. On the palate, the alcohol becomes more present, biting, even sharp. While the fruity, pastry and medicinal profile of the nose is generally present, the flavors are much less pronounced on the palate. They're even anaesthetized by the alcohol, which is rather disturbing here. This is clearly not the style of rum to introduce a tasting. The finish leaves its medicinal, warm, alcoholic imprint for a long time. The astringency is very present, marked by drying tannins. It's hard to find any sign of sweetness in this bottling. A rum with strong character, but too sanitized overall. If it feels like a bomb, it's unfortunately more alcoholic than aromatic.

Shortly after opening and pouring, the whole room smells of glue! This rum cannot be mistaken for Hampden! It is not easy to "smell past" the esters. Ripe pineapple and marzipan are definitely behind it. Slightly weaker vanilla, pastry and yoghurt also yellow fruits. On the palate, I find the rum much more balanced! The barrel and roasted aromas are added here, as well as a salty note and olives, which form a nice interplay with the fruity sweetness. I also really like the seamless transition to the almost endless finish. The salty note picks up speed here. An excellent, intense, "thoroughbred" Hampden. According to the BAT blog, Hampden produced the Mark OWH in 2013. However, this rum is definitely one of the <>H

09.02.2024 Nordlichter treffen. Retasting More powerful and intense than Wu Dram Clan and not an everyday rum. Very intense in a good way. Nose Intense, ester, funk, light wood, faint roasted, light smoke, light marzipan, fruity, glue, light floral. Palate Intense, light wood, faint smoke, light roasted, fruity, ester, citrus, glue, light olive. Edit: Tasted again in crosstasting. For me, the Nobilis and the WuDram are still ahead of it, as they are a tick better. The full blast of glue paired with esters. Great stuff, I just find the finish and the aftertaste a bit entertaining, which spoils its higher score.

Still very brute when freshly poured, but the longer it is in the glass the better it gets. Super Jamaican and an interesting direct comparison with the WDC: A nose that can be clearly attributed to Hampden, a good load of esters. But it gets exciting on the palate: the CoR is clearly wilder and has a salty note that makes it very exciting. The beautiful banana-ester notes linger on the finish.

Really delicious! Nice and fruity, lots of esters ... some acidity but not disturbing for me. I like it very much... Pure as well as in Mai Tai it makes a good figure. PLV fits considering the times.

Cookie dough and tropical fruit, plus a nice light saltiness. A really nice Hampden, <>H is increasingly becoming one of my favorite Hampden Marques. Edit: Tasted again against the Nobilis Hampden <>H 2013 (RX12016). The CoR has more saltiness and is a little wilder, while the Nobilis is a little rounder and more tamed. In the end, it's a matter of taste, for me both are on the same high level. Edit 2: Woody, fruity, bitter, salty. Unfortunately just awesome. Another 0.1 points up. Edit 3: Together with the Nobilis No. 14 my current reference for Hampden <>H.

On the nose, plenty of glue, esters, marzipan and something sour. Very intense on the palate and also more trop. Fruits. In direct comparison with the Nobilis <>H 2013, the two rums really only differ in nuances. I really like both of them.

Today a small cross-comparison between the CoR and the WDC 2014. On the nose, the CoR is somewhat more restrained and subtle, but the classic <>H aromas are still clearly perceptible, just not as intense as in the WDC. The exact opposite on the palate... here the CoR is much more present and crisp and ... more intense...! However, both also serve the classic aroma play of the <>H. The finish is long...ester-heavy with a hint of brine, medicinal bitterness and some fermented fruit. They don't give each other much. Which one you prefer here is a question of personal taste, as they are both clearly recognizable as <>H.

Hampden close to perfection, keeping the age in mind. But I needed a lot of water and patience to get there. I would assume 48-50% are the perfect ABV here. Thanks to RumTaTa for the split. // I bought a bottle and it feels like after some time the charring of the cask comes more into play. All in all a really nice drop.

Nice part ester some fruit. In the Salt, medicinal, glue and varnish dominate in the mouth. Alcohol also well integrated but all in all a bit rough. Jamaicans would definitely say funky now ;) The salty notes are definitely special.

Tasted at Liquid Leuven ‘23, so my review remains rather concise. Typical <>H profile on the nose, rich in berries, sour pineapple, and lemon juice; counterbalanced with lighter sugars such as marzipan and yellow banana. It’s heavily spiced with juniper berries, grated ginger and jasmin tea, before it gets almost overwhelmingly synthetic with bicycle tubes, treated rubber and hot glue. On the palate bananas have left the scene and the marzipan alone unfortunately can’t hold back the sours effectively. Overripe pineapple, berrymix and lemon juice front and centre. Lots of ginger and equal amounts of glue. The imbalance is what makes it truely interesting, but the alcohol is not integrated perfectly and that’s what breaks the experience. The finish is medium in length, primarily fruity, but bitter and unusually dry.

A first-class <>H that really shines both neat and in a Mai Tai. Esters, varnish, overripe tropical fruits, as well as marzipan and a bit of buttery notes are perfectly balanced. The value for money is also great.

The CoR has to prove itself today against the Nobils No. 14. The CoR is a little darker in color, but that doesn't mean anything. In the first impression on the nose I find the Nobilis - despite its higher ABV - a little finer, a touch less aggressive. With the CoR I have fermented fruit and cake batter / fruit base, with the Nobilis comes a note that reminds me of chutney or stewed fruit. On the palate, however, I can barely make out a difference. Bottom line, the Nobilis is a little ahead with its interesting nose. But De CoR does not have to hide either!

Very straightforward and intense. Lots of esters and varnish, plus tropical fruits and a good splash of citrus. No complex interplay of aromas, it simply goes full and straight through. It shreds. 89/100 or 7/10

Another really good continentale aged Hampden. <>H the mark, this time 2013 rather than the usual (and amazing) 2014. All the traits are the ones expected: tropical fruits and esters plus some caramel are all over there (ananas with caramelized sugar anyone?) on the nose, but there's also somehow too much alcool in there. The alcool is the negative side also on the palate, where it is coupled with some eccessive bitterness, and this lowers my score a bit. And it's a pity given the nice profile also on the palate, where I can find esters (nail polish and similar) but also a basket of tropical fruits and the strange but usual nutty note there's in this kind of hampdens

My first experience with Colours of Rum. Very intense aroma with lot of fruits scent (pineapple), esters and glue. I noticed sweet scent (needed help to confirm it was marzipan), light floral scent, scent of smoke and wood. Again very intense and strong taste (I want to say too strong for me). I noticed some citrusy fruits, little bit of sweet notes (vanilla I guess) lot of glue and alcoholic flavor, but there was something like salty and oily flavor (almost like olive). I also noticed light wood and smoke with floral notes. Finish was too long to be pleasant (for me at least). Very strong, hot, dry, salty and estery. I was so happy when I found out that I will have a chance to finally taste one of the Colours of Rum sample, and even Jamaica. To be honest I guessed that this sample came from Hampden (that jamaican funk and esters were too much). First sip was so bad and strong I want to give up on this sample. Tried to wait for a while to find another flavors and scents. I have to say that this one is not for me for now.

Ten minutes after the pour, everyone in the room knows that something wild and interesting has been poured. The aroma is very much dominated by glue and pineapple. In the taste it is intense and complex, slightly sweet and very warm on the finish.

Very good hampden, and although I've tasted other contenders from the same year, it more than holds its own. It's very well made 😋belle palette aromatique, bcp de fruits, sûr mûri, de l'olive verte, et un peu de saumure, un léger fumé... du H quoi 🤩

Another 2013 Hampden. This time a bottling from Colours of Rum. It's the usual high Hampden quality, but unfortunately a bit too much acidity and the alcohol isn't quite as well integrated. But so far, they have all been above average.

Bright golden yellow. Nose explosive esters. Clearly Hampden with tropical fruits, solvents, intense and youthful fresh. Yet still nicely balanced. This rounded impression only developed after a few minutes in the glass. So best to wait a bit. On the palate then also very intense. Full blast of the nose aromas. Along with chemical notes, acidity, then come cask notes and spicy components in the long finish. Exciting – this rum easily gained 3 points in my rating over time in the glass and was the winner compared to the simultaneously tasted relatives RX19261 and RX24987.

This is a whole different level, very complex, rounded, and intense when wet. Ester buttery texture, very fruity and fresh, sweet, vanilla glaze, and so dense—not light, very powerful when wet. On the palate, strong and intense from the first moment, fresh esters, woody and oily texture, alcohol is very well integrated. Notes of tropical fruits. The finish is very long and fruity. Very good rum.
