La Maison Du Whisky Samai Rhum Cambodia (Flag Series) 2018
Sipped neat, this one throws people for a loop — most taste it blind and guess Jamaica or Fiji, not Cambodia. Expect solvent and fresh rubber, tropical fruit, citrus zest, then a woody, medicinal, spicy edge from the pot still. One taster called it an "odd piece, intruiging," a fusion of Worthy Park, Clément and Mhoba. Young, a bit rough, and genuinely unlike much else.

How does La Maison Du Whisky Samai Rhum Cambodia (Flag Series) 2018 taste?
Aggregated from 60 community reviews.
Funky, medicinal Cambodian pot still oddity A curiosity people are glad they tried but rarely want a full bottle of. Great nose, but the palate turns woody, medicinal and slightly hot — young and still finding itself.

Interesting and of decent quality. Gives me some Fidji vibes with some dirty/plant-y notes on the nose and palate. Quite some sweetness and vanilla notes from the cask. Finish is a bit to woody/bitter to fully satisfy. Interesting profile nevertheless! Edit after some oxidation: evolved nicely, smoothing out the profile. Gives associations to the 2000 WIRD „Rockley“s, yet a bit more nasty. Same verdict: interesting profile!

Yes, schnapps. Perhaps usable as a mixer. Not recommended neat. Smells like a train station bum. Nice label and Lmdw affiliation don't save anything.

This is my first experience with the flag series and the Cambodia. In aroma it is interesting, citrusy. In taste, one could type Jamaica, in their softer and not so wild tones. The way worthy park often does.
Review by Oliver
Exciting profile. It is reminiscent of Fiji and Jamaica (Worthy Park). There is also a pleasant citrus note, which brings a nice freshness. A real surprise and a great rum.

Exciting rum from Cambodia! On the nose I first thought of Fiji rum because of the note of burnt plastic and citrus fruits, then there is a quite floral, almost perfumed note. The taste is then almost reminiscent of a younger Clarendon with this blatant menthol, chalk and pencil note, plus tart lime, very astringent and black tea tannins and a fine sweetness reminiscent of caramel with allspice and vanilla. Overall a nice package and my first Cambodian single cask rum!

Cambodia ... somehow artificial the whole thing, with wood, spice and some caramel... I had expected much more. The alcohol is also not so well integrated. I suspect that it will be some time before this rum is ready to be drunk by the general public

Un nez superbe, une bouche légèrement plus amère. Une belle quille sur les agrumes, la vanille et le bois. Très gourmand.

I'm probably like most people here, there's a lack of Cambodia reference points... On the nose cosmos chemistry set (does anyone else know that 😅), plastic, vanilla, milk cream, fermented fruit, grapefruit. Roasty and spicy on the palate, barrel, tart finish. Really interesting piece!

On the nose, there's something metallic and banana at first, but the metallic note fades with time. On the palate, it reminds me a little of a Worthy Park, again banana, but also a slightly bitter sticky note, which somehow makes it quite exciting for me. I quite like it, but I don't need a bottle of it.

My first rum from Cambodia. Another nice experiment. In my opinion, you have to try it, but unfortunately it's not a unicorn. Tried both neat and as a mixer. Although it cuts a better figure as a mixer.

A super interesting rum! On the palate, I got a distinctly earthy, nori-like flavor (though my partner did not seem to agree)… this semi-savory profile mellowed towards a sweet, marshmallow-like finish. Incredibly unique and definitely worth tasting if you have the chance!

Interesting new profile, something different - not yet a completely independent world of flavors, but nevertheless a promise for the future, provided we can experience even more release variety here.
Review by Joe95
What a discovery! It's close to a Jamaican, probably due to pot still distillation. Really tropical fruit and varnish. The esters line the palate well and the alcohol is well integrated. With a little more ageing, I think it will be excellent. Very promising...

So this could be a typical Uitvlugt. The nose smells very Pkastik, and quite fermented. On the palate then why I don't particularly like Uitvlugt. Really very fermented and rotten, not my taste.
Review by Roman Lelek
I agree with the Fiji vibes, I feel it too. Well, it quite lacks the body of a taste, it’s definitely not complex, layered..the taste is quite easy, straight forward… The color- more yellow, like a pee..the nose - there is something for me that I can’t describe - something like old bourbon wooden barrel mixed with caramel, vegetal, citrus… The taste- I would recommend to add more ages. 5 years are not good enough, it reminds me some cheap rums, but here is a potential to be good one. Overall not bad but not great rum either…as an interesting sample for broader my horizont…

Exciting! Blindly, I would have guessed Jamaica. Somehow it's a mixture of Clarendon and Worthy Park.
