Long Pond Plantation Jamaica (LMDW) ITP 2000
Most tasters land in the "really good but not top-tier" camp — one calls it the best ITP they've had, others find it pleasant yet not memorable. It's a low-ester Long Pond: overripe tropical fruit, pineapple, caramel and a medicinal, glue-and-varnish edge, with plenty of oak. At 62% the alcohol reads well-integrated, though a few drops of water opens the fruit and softens the wood.

After the discovery of the live whisky, which had thrilled me, I took the time to taste it again this evening. I'm still very impressed. A great ITP, especially on the nose. I really love this nose. Superb balance between fruit, wood and a gourmand side. On the palate, the woodiness tends to be a little too present, through a little bitterness that quickly blurs the fruitier aromas of the beginning. Too bad, but it's still a great rum. Another very fine plantation release in the top-range Jamaican range, at a price that's not at all unreasonable today for 20 years of age.

Edit nachdem ich wieder ein Sample doppelt hatte, erneut probiert und doch ein wenig nach oben korrigiert Zum Jahresabschluss nochmal mit Serge spontan kurz vor dem Mittagessen verkostet. Wieder hat mich Plantation positiv mit dieser Abfüllung positiv überrascht. Alkohol ist gut integriert. Schöne medizinische Noten im Mund.

Off the top of my head, I would say this is the best ITP I've had in a glass so far! Significantly better than the ITP-15 (which was rather disappointing for the price) but also even better than the already pretty good Rum Songe No.17.

Ein weiterer Low-Ester Long Pond. Auch das ist eine ansprechende Abfüllung, aber für mich nicht hervorhebenswert. Mir fehlen einfach die Ester und markanten Aromen, um ihn besonders zu machen. So bleibt er einer unter vielen !

Sehr fruchtiger low Ester Long Pond, den ich blind nicht als ITP erkannt hätte. Bringt auch relativ viel Süße mit durchs Ferrand Cask. Es überlagert aber nicht die Esternoten, die kräftiger sind als sonst beim ITP. Im Abgang noch Gewürze. Ist nicht schlecht, aber hat mich auch nicht restlos überzeugt.

Guter Long Pond zum Abschluss. Natürlich auch typisch Jamaika, tropische Früchte (natürlich Banane und Ananas :)) und auch viel Ester. Ansonsten am Gaumen auchbleicht würzig und holzig, Karamell ist auch erkennbar.

Ein überraschend fruchtiger Low Ester Long Pond, den ich blind wohl kaum als ITP identifiziert hätte. Die Nachreifung im Ferrand-Fass bringt spürbare Süße mit, ohne die Esteraromen zu überdecken – die zeigen sich hier sogar ausgeprägter als üblich für ein ITP-Profil. Im Abgang kommen zusätzlich würzige Noten zum Vorschein. Insgesamt solide, aber so ganz hat er mich nicht gepackt. Trotzdem vielen Dank an saibotzar für diesen spannenden Split!

Es dauert ein wenig bis sich der Rum öffnet, dann aber relativ viele fruchtige Noten von süßen/reifen trop. Früchten, Gewürze und Karamell. Je länger ich dran rieche, desto besser gefällt er mir. Am Gaumen dann leicht adstringend mit trop. Früchten, Gewürzen, Holz, etwas Menthol und Lakritz. Gefällt mir sehr gut!

Un Long Pond low ester qui a de l’énergie à revendre. Au nez, on a un quatuor qui se forme entre le fruité exotique au chant, le boisé épicé qui donne de la percussion, les esters et les notes de colle et de vernis qui donnent le côté tendu des instruments à cordes et les arômes pâtissiers sur la brioche, le massepain et le caramel qui soufflent tels des instruments à vent. Le concert se passe très bien. L’alchimie opère toujours en bouche, offrant une belle symphonie entre le fût, les épices douces sur la vanille, le poivre et le piment doux, les saveurs phénoliques et médicinales et les fruits tropicaux qui viennent avec les agrumes pour donner de la rondeur. Si on retrouve un profil assez complet, il perd un peu de son caractère en bouche au profit d’une plus grande douceur et légèreté. Les 62% sont bien intégrés. La finale est plus sèche, plus chaude, plus pimentée, mais non pas moins fruitée, gourmande et agréable. Elle est très longue et laisse les notes médicinales tapissent le palais de colle, de vernis, d’esters et de tanins. Un joli jus tout en équilibre, fier port-étendard de sa distillerie.

Komplexer Rum mit deutlichem Einfluss von Trockenfrüchten, warmen Gewürzen und einer reifen Holznote. Im Mund verbinden sich dunkle Beeren, Lakritz und herbe Kräuter zu einem spannenden Gesamtbild. Der Alkohol ist gut integriert, die Struktur wirkt balanciert. Trotz des eher unbekannten Profils überzeugt die Abfüllung mit Charakter und Tiefe.

In der Nase unverkennbar Long Pond. Eine tolle tropische Frucht mit etwas Säure und Würze. Dazu eine leichte brioche süße. Trotz der 62% kommt quasi kein alkoholisches stechen in der Nase an. Auch am Gaumen super eingebundener Alkohol. Es zeigt sich ein Zusammenspiel aus Holz Noten (ich habe sogar zwei kleine Kohlepartikel im Glas) und Zitrusfrüchten. Die tropischen Noten und deren süße sind kaum vorhanden. Es handelt sich hier um einen super Rum, der am Gaumen aber nicht ganz meinen Geschmack trifft. Hier fehlt es mir an der fruchtigen Süße die ich an Jamaikanischen Rums sehr mag, an ihrer Stelle stehen röstige Holz Noten.

Für einen ITP ausgesprochen funky, trocken, super adstringierend und intensiv. Zitrusabrieb, Papaya, Karamell, Menthol, leicht rauchig und würzig. Insgesamt etwas scharf und nicht so süffig wie erhofft. Dennoch einer der spannendsten ITPs bis dato!

A very good and powerful LP. Really liked it. dark and fruity. With small amount of esters. But definitely boosts the complexity. A buy with the lmdw discounts. בקבוק לונג פונד נהדר. לא כבד מידיי ומסריח מידיי. רוב הזמן היה בישון טרופי וזה מורגש. פירות. עור. עץ. לקה. מעולה. אהבתי מאוד.

Un ITP agréable. Comparé à d'autres, on sent davantage les esters et le funky, même si léger. Nez et bouche sont proches. Longueur moyenne. A 62° je m'attendais à mieux mais l'alcool reste très bien intégré. Fruit tropicaux, vinaigre, beurre, vanille : voilà les marqueurs qui caractérisent ce rhum. Pas transcendant mais très agréable !

Un Long Pond plutôt consensuel et sans surprise. On est sur un profil fruité. Les esters sont présents mais pas en excès. Très épicé. Fort et chaud. L'alcool est un poil trop piquant pour moi. Sympathique mais j'aurais espéré mieux.

Goûté au Whisky Live. Très bon mais j'ai l'impression d'en avoir bu des hectolitres des Long Pond de cette facture avec la marque Plantation (finish en fûts de cognac). Je repense notamment au Extrêmes qui me semble-t-il avaient plus de caractère. Ça pourrait être intéressant de faire un tasting en tête à tête
