Opinions on this one are genuinely split. A lot of tasters find it thin, alcoholic and flat, with no sign of its 48 years — "wenig Geschmack" as one put it. But a vocal minority pull real pleasure from it: chocolate, caramel, vanilla, dry cherry wood and pipe tobacco on a quiet, well-integrated nose. Interesting on paper, uneven in the glass.

Divisive old Ecuadorian; chocolate-caramel but often flat Divisive. Some taste chocolate, caramel and cherry wood and rate it well; more find it flat, astringent and alcoholic with none of its age showing. Not a safe blind buy.

Nase: Süsses Getreide, pflanzlich, Kräuter, Blüten, Schwarztee, angenehm Gaumen: viel Eistee, noch nicht ganz getrockneter Stroh, Hafer, Zitrone und etwas Honig, Alkohol gut eingebunden (Flasche wurde frisch geöffnet und kann einige Kommentare zum Alkohol nicht nachvollziehen). Easy zum trinken.

Let's see: from Ecuador, I usually expect a light, simple Spanish-style rum. However, the key data of this rum here sound much more interesting. Almost 50 years old! But in fact we don't know exactly what's in it, because the old barrel must have been topped up with rums of the same style in the 90s. But then the youngest portion is still 30 years old! Nose: very pleasant, restrained but still concentrated and round. No alcohol stings there. First I get to smell pleasant chocolate, caramel and fine vanilla. Sweetness of nougat comes in. Very dark and ripe cherry, black currant and red grape in the background. Fragrant cherry wood and flavored pipe tobacco round out. Yes, I like it well. 8.4 Palate: again, not overbearing, yet powerful. Chocolaty-sweet at first, then a slight bitter-salty note comes in before cherry wood and molasses take over. Dry vanilla and old cardboard, plus tonka bean and pecan, and tobacco can also be found behind it. In terms of fruit, maybe a dark, pickled cherry gets there. 8,2 Taken on its own, I don't find it as bad as the other reviews suggest at all. PLV is right for what it is.

Irgendwie hab ich es heute mit Schokoladenrums. Hier in der Nase neben Schokolade noch Vanille und Karamell. Am Gaumen kommt er ziemlich kräftig rüber, auch hier schöne Schokoladen-, Karamell- und Vanillenoten.

Ja, ne. Flach und alkoholisch. Da kauft man sich besser einen Havana Club 3. Mit dem Thema Romero bin ich dann auch durch.

Phew, I really expected more. Regardless of the data of the rum, which sound interesting at first, quite "sober" considered: Alcoholic, little flavor, flat, astringent, column style.

Franconian Tasting Gang If only with cola and ice. Edit: Unfortunately I have to retract this statement. I think it's pretty much the only rum and coke I've ever thrown away because I couldn't get it down.

Unfortunately above its zenith - not even in terms of wood influence, but oxidation. Tends towards musty herbs in the mouth before the sweetness takes over again on the palate. Too bad.

#4587 26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirit Another very old rum that should have been bottled way earlier in my mind. Nose Wood, roasted, earthy, light fruit, caramel, fair nougat. Palate Wood, roasted, fruit, light vegetal, herbs, light caramel. Finish Medium long, wood, roasted, sweet, light cherry.
