Romero & Sons FRC Ecuador (Kirsch Whisky) 1973
Chocolate, caramel and a slightly oxidized herbal edge carry this 1973 Ecuador single cask, bottled at 50.4% from a Romero & Sons cask. On paper a 50-year-old cane-juice rum sounds special, but most tasters found it flat, sweet and hot, with the alcohol poorly integrated. A few rated it kindly; more felt it tasted far younger than its age.

How does Romero & Sons FRC Ecuador (Kirsch Whisky) 1973 taste?
Aggregated from 25 community reviews.
Flat, sweet, alcohol-heavy old Ecuador cask Divisive, and mostly a letdown. Chocolate, wood and herbs are there, but reviewers found it flat, sweet and alcohol-forward, with little of the depth you'd expect from 50 years.

Phew, I really expected more. Regardless of the data of the rum, which sound interesting at first, quite "sober" considered: Alcoholic, little flavor, flat, column style, a touch of vanilla.

#4585 26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirit Pretty well rounded and sweet rum with light fruit. Nose Fresh wood, roasted, citrus, light citrus, caramel, light herbs. Palate Oily, wood, roasted, faint smoke, sweet, caramel, light orange, chocolate, light herbs. Finish Medium long, sweet, wood, roasted, chocolate and light fruits.

Solid thing but overall somewhat unspectacular and could be much more intense aromatically for 50y aging but also milder. I would have expected more from it, too bad... The price is alright but still a bit lax overall...

All right, I'll try the samples from zabo. Today No. 1: Uh, really not great. Tastes like neutral alcohol mixed with artificial peach flavoring. You can somehow (with some effort) recognize the Spanish style. But I don't find the alcohol well integrated and the rum somehow "thin" despite being over 50%. I don't even want to talk about the actual age of the rum. Perceived age 5 years at most. Too bad.
