Romero & Sons FRC Ecuador (Kirsch Whisky) 1973

"The best of the series" is the recurring verdict here — which is faint praise, since most tasters found the four Ecuador casks flat and disappointing. This one has more body: dark chocolate, brown caramel, vanilla and dark cherry, with molasses and pipe tobacco. The catch is real sweetness and a sharp, alcoholic nose that doesn't feel like 48 years in a glass.

The community says
  • Dark chocolate depth
  • Rounder body
  • Too sweet

How does Romero & Sons FRC Ecuador (Kirsch Whisky) 1973 taste?

Aggregated from 32 community reviews.

Chocolatey old cask, sweet and a bit flat Widely called the pick of a lackluster four-cask run. Chocolate, caramel and cherry with a rounder body, but many find it too sweet, flat and hot for its age.

Collectors chasing old vintage-dated single casks

Eventuell das falsche Wort, aber noch der “angenehmste” der Reihe. Wer immer die Idee für diese Reihe hatte, sollte seinen Job abgeben.

Here is the obviously better of the 4 barrels bottled. 50 yo or only partially, no matter. Something special these are in any case. Nose: pleasantly strong again, but still heavy and round. Fruitier than cask #22, with dried apricot added to the dark, sweetly inlaid cherry. Behind that, lots of caramel with vanilla and sweet nougat. Pipe tobacco and cherry wood come in as well as tonka bean and molasses. Liked. 8,5 Palate: oh, noticeably sweeter than #22. Brown, burnt caramel with vanilla. Sweet, slightly licoricey treacle, tonka bean and pecan. Pickled cherry and soft prune. But also flavored pipe tobacco and cherry wood. Very dense and again chocolaty. 8.4 Overall, an old rum with dense body. Chocolatey-sweet. Almost too sweet on the palate for me.

Franconian Tasting Gang If only with cola and ice. Edit: Unfortunately I have to retract this statement. I think it's pretty much the only rum and coke I've ever thrown away because I couldn't get it down.

Phew, I really expected more. Regardless of the data of the rum, which sound interesting at first, quite "sober" considered: Definitely the best of the series! The taste is not bad at all with chocolate, caramel, some barrel. Could also be a rum from Panama. Here you notice something the age.

Good rum, the nose is very pungent, very intense, also quite alcoholic. There are also light notes of chocolate (dark) and caramel. On the palate you can also taste caramel and dark chocolate.
