Christian de Montaguère La Favorite Créolita 2022

Sipped neat, this young La Favorite agricole leads with fresh sugarcane, black pepper and new oak, plus vanilla and a herbal, earthy edge. One Danish taster caught light tobacco, apple and cherry too. Round and slightly honeyed but on the dry side, with a long peppery-woody finish. Several found it a touch monolithic and youthful, but the texture carries it.

How does Christian de Montaguère La Favorite Créolita 2022 taste?

Aggregated from 24 community reviews.

Young peppery agricole, cane and new oak Well-liked young ESB agricole — sugarcane, pepper and oak in fine balance. A few felt it tastes its age and stays a bit one-dimensional; the unaged Créole won some over more.

Perfect for

Agricole fans who like fresh cane and pepper over sweetness

Less suitable for

People wanting a rich, long-aged or sweet rum

The nose is intriguing with toasted hazelnuts, wood, red and dried fruits, then tobacco and custard. The palate is oily and enveloping, with sweet notes of dates(perhaps even apple and agave syrup) and cream, then spice/pepper, cashews and some toasted wood on the finish. The alcohol profile is reminiscent of a fine grappa. In the aftertaste that lingers for a long time, a very good, dry hint of wood. Overall it is quite simple, but with a distinct personality. I prefer the aroma to the taste. In the empty glass seasoned and dates. If it had not had that pungent alcoholic note it would have been a 9, it sins in roundness.

Couleur jaune légèrement doré mais encore assez pâle. On pense à vieillissement court naturellement.

Very good ESB, with very present pastry aromas, the extreme toasting reveals the woodiness and spiciness without masking the fruitiness. The 180th barrel ageing is a success. And what's more, the delicious taste lingers on the palate long after tasting.

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 220 Rums

La Favorite is the last working distillery inside Martinique's capital, Fort-de-France, and the island's longest continuously family-run house. Five generations of the Dormoy family have made rhum here on a 1906 steam engine that still turns the mill. It is agricole at its most unvarnished, and the community treasures its old La Flibuste vintages as some of the finest aged Martinique rum there is.
