Perola Bellamy‘s Reserve Mizunara
One reviewer calls this "the first mizunara finish" they've actually enjoyed in a rum — and that Japanese oak is the whole point. Expect caramel and young wood up front, then a lively ginger-and-black-pepper spice with a nutmeg edge. There's real sweetness here too (about 14 g/l dosage), which several tasters found tipped it too far. An interesting experiment more than an everyday pour.

Mizunara cask comes through bold. Nice acidity, intense tannins, light pepper and ginger spiciness balanced by not too much sweetness. Exciting! So far probably the first mizunara finish I've tasted in rum. It would be exciting to compare it again with an unsweetened single cask.

Without a side by side comparison it is difficult the assertain the influence of the Mizunara cask properly. However, I think it added quite some complexity to the rum versus the Rye notes of the origin blend. For my palate it is still very much too sweet tbh.
