Foursquare ECS VIII Premise 2008
Vanilla, coconut and dark chocolate sit on a base of sherry-soaked oak here — the classic Foursquare balance, just softer and more subtle than the cask-strength ECS bottlings. Most call it a very easy sipper with natural sweetness and roasted, nutty depth. The recurring gripe: at 46% some find it a touch thin and short on excitement, so it charms more than it grabs you.

How does Foursquare ECS VIII Premise 2008 taste?
Aggregated from 106 community reviews.
Balanced, easy-sipping sherry-cask Foursquare Loved as a gentle, well-balanced Foursquare with sherry warmth and coconut-vanilla ease. The catch a few name: it can read thin and simple, and the heavy sherry oak isn't for everyone.

27.10.2025 Finishing the last sample I have, next time it's the bottle I have. Retasting and I still find it well balanced and nice. ---------- If you know the Foursquare Port Cask Finish, then this one is similar but more subtle in general. A nice complex rum with natural sweetness to it.

For me, this is one of the best sipping rums from Foursquare. Various other releases at cask strength have already shown that Foursquare harmonizes well with ex-sweet wine casks, and here is proof of this at reduced drinking strength.

A varnish blended with fruit on the nose, marzipan. Discretion and elegance, a fresh, pastry-like quality. A soft, balanced, woody and slightly diluted attack on the palate. A short but still elegant finish. Pineapple and monoi in the empty glass. A rum that's no competition beast, but one that knows how to seduce. I love it!

Very very tasty easy sipping foursquare. The 48% are ideally chosen. Nice combo of coconut, milk chocolate, grape jelly and some caramel with salt.
Review by Oliver
Very good easy-sipping Foursquare. The reduction to 46% does not dilute it at all — on the contrary: great intensity and aroma density. Perfect drinking strength. I really like the sherry influence.

8,7:On the nose, roasted wood notes and sherry barrel, sweet, with leather, caramel, chocolate, pastry, spicy vanilla, buttery, raisins, toasted coconut, some varnish, molasses with tobacco, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, citrus and dried apricots arise, metallic patina and hints of sulphur, brown sugar and roasted nuts. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is sweet with roasted oak notes, sherry barrel finish, like caramel, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, nuts, leather, syrupy, creamy, full bodied, fruity with dried, citrus fruits, coconut, balanced, spicy with baking spices, vanilla. 8,7:The finish is long, sweet, dry&tannic, round, buttery, as roasted oak notes with dark chocolate, macaroons, pastry, nuts, spicy, pair mineral molasses with licorice and tobacco, fruits like coconut, citrus, cherry and grapes..

Having a Foursquare rums tonight. First one was the Sagacity and now Premise. On the nose: Sherry notes come forward as the rum sits in the glass. Vanilla. Coconut. Dried fruits. That Foursquare trademark balance is there. Roasted. Offers more on the nose than the Sagacity. Taste: Balanced and soft. Vanilla, coconut and caramel notes up front. Then you get more oaky, roasted flavours with spices. Finish: Woody. Vanilla. Hints of citrus and grapes in there. Semi-dry finish. Another easy sipper with a little more bigger palate than the Sagacity. That "trademark" Foursquare balance is there. Just as i expected, good quality rum, but misses intensity and exitement which drops the score for me. Good inoffensive rum for someone new to rum world.

Some port influence, light orange note, marzipan, alcohol not particularly well integrated despite the dilution. Seems a bit young.
Review by La Brute de Futs
incredibly fruity, perfectly balanced, hints of coconut, nuts, and woods. No wonder Foursquare is a top notch distillery with awesome and price-worthy products. Clearly it's a must have for any rum lover.

A solid, smoother rum from Foursquare that is permeated with vanilla and wood.

Velice prijemny vzorek, predni pozice u me mezi foursquary

It’s a rum that builds. At first taste the relatively low ABV was a bit uninspiring but the longer I took with it the more I enjoyed it. The nose is delicate but refined, with a sweet vanilla, cooking spices and a cut of green apple. On the mouth it is surprisingly savoury, with green olives and brine mixed with chocolate and warm spices. The finish is soft and medium length with milk chocolate and nuts in front of a backbone of warming spice. It’s a rum which needs time to be appreciated but brings a lot of interesting notes to the party. More refined than the bourbon cask ECS bottlings and a good option if willing to take some time

Likely my first taste of Foursquares ECS edition, and I've been a fan since. Back then, it was a good price for the quality. It's very easy to drink. Sweetness to the nose, and notes of fruits, jam and subtle sherry

A bit simple. Alcohol well integrated.

Kombinace staření v sudu po portském a sherri rumu velmi prospěla. V chuti pořád klasický foursquare, ale sud po sherri mu dodáva sladkost, která jde s nižším abv pěkně dohromady. Jemné, komplexní s kratší závěrem.

Deep, high intensity and somewhat dark, mature aroma. Caramel, vanilla, oak on the nose. Honeycomb aroma in the empty glass. Wonderful. Classic Barbados palate with oak, vanilla, also beeswax and some fruit. Overall very nice.
