Carrere Montebello ZENGA BLACK EDITION (Canne Noire) 2022
Made for people already into blanc agricole and black-cane rhum, this Guadeloupe pour is grassy and fresh up front, then turns into a spicy, oily mouthful of black pepper, star anise, licorice and bitter citrus. One taster called it "so gourmand it disappeared in one evening" over ti punch. At 60% it runs hot, and a few find it a touch bitter.

#4545 13.01.2020 Relaxing at home. A pretty good release. Fresh and fruity with an oily palate that is spicy and medium dry. The finish is medium to long and spicy with some added licorice.

Overall a great Agricole Blanc with typical Montebello aromas and tastes. It’s distilled in January 2022 at the Carrere Distillery and bottled one year later after a year's rest in vats at 60% in 12000 bottles. It’s named after the ZENGA rooster which is considered the leader of the barnyard in the West Indies.

An exciting combination for a Canne Noir of black pepper, plenty of star anise, licorice, bitter pink grapefruit and bitter orange as well as minimal chili. I don't really like it in the ti Punch and overall I find it a little too alcoholic and bitter. All in all, however, a good bottling for fans of canne noir.
