Longueteau Genesis XO
Marzipan, caramel and creme brulee lead the nose, backed by sugarcane, nuts and a light smoky-woody edge. It's an agricole aged in new toasted oak, bottled at cask strength — and at nearly 71% it drinks hot. Several tasters love the "bomb of flavours" but note real heat and, for a couple, a sour or sprity finish. Let it rest in the glass.

How does Longueteau Genesis XO taste?
Aggregated from 46 community reviews.
Powerful cask-strength agricole, nutty and warming Rich, nutty and dessert-like on the nose, then powerful and warming on the palate. Most rate it highly, but a few find the alcohol too present and the finish sour or sharp.

#4206 Wow, this is a bomb of flavours. I rested it for 30 minutes before giving it a go because it's pretty powerful when poured. Pretty fresh and intense with fruits and light wood and spice. I like the light smoky and marzipan note in the profile. The palate is dry and warm and pretty well balanced. The empty glass has some light coconut and nutty notes.

Alcohol integration is rather poor, both on the nose and on the palate, and is very present and fizzy. The bourbon cask is also very intensely aromatic and sets the tone. Basically aromatically exciting but also simply very tiring and demanding....

This rum from the Esperance Distillery in Guadeloupe is their first XO brut de fût. The distillate used is the same as in Genesis Blanc, Batch 1. After distillation it’s aged in new low toasted oak barrels and bottled without any reduction in 2000 bottles. The nose is full bodied, nutty, woody, sweet and spicy with scents of nougat, sugarcane, butterscotch and oak. At the palate it’s intense, woody, spicy, sweet, powerful and nutty with flavors of almonds, nougat, honey, salt and vanilla. The finish is long, elegant, spicy, sweet, woody and fruity.

The expression of the Genesis XO version changes radically from its predecessors. Whereas the amber and the old are particularly belligerent, this version is far more elegant and refined, while retaining a strong character. The nose offers a multitude of aromas of unparalleled sweetness: praline, marzipan, caramel, crème brûlée, hazelnut, chocolate, mocha and nutmeg flesh out the profile of great olfactory indulgence. Tobacco, smoky wood and fruit (notably dried and tropical) confirm a multi-faceted, highly pleasing profile. The attack on the palate reminds us that we're dealing with a rum at over 70 degrees. Smoky oak, chili and leather dry out the profile, which becomes livelier and warmer. Fruits, sugarcane and walnuts balance the whole, which is fairly homogeneous. The alcohol is well-integrated, but beware of taking a sip the wrong way. The finish, long, warm, intense and spicy, is the image of what this Longueteau has to offer: a rich and exhilarating profile, powerful and elegant. Vanilla and crème brûlée play off herbaceous and fruity notes to rise alongside spice and woodiness on the finish. A punchy yet well-crafted rum, which will nevertheless leave a bitter taste for its well above-average price.

Exciting nose. Lots of bourbon influence. Interesting, but has too much spiciness for my taste.

I prefer to let it sit longer, after all I have respect for 70+ rums. Sugar cane, herbs, citrus and perhaps marzipan on the nose. Fortunately, the taste is not an unforgiving massacre. The body is a delicious combination of fresh fruit with citrus, and then the intense flavours of nutmeg, cane and nuts with citrus come in. Very warm finish.

Golden Advent Calendar RFC 2024. The second piece from this distillery during this year and I must admit that this one is a big surprise. In a good way. After the not-too-appealing aroma comes a brutal blast in the taste. A real treat.

Mild, full of taste, spicy... I just dont like the sour finish
Review by Rado Vito
Ok, this is something. Very interesting just by smelling. I can distinguish caramel, vanilla and leather. The taste is sweet from beggining but change very quickly, body is leather, wood, spicy and the aftertaste is fruity with herbs and a little bit spicy. Alkohol is perfectly integrated. This rum is different, than I am use to drink. But I could drink it and try to examinate all the palete whole night. Well, with its voltage … a few hours before I will be completely drunk.
