Barbancourt Haitian Proof Rhum Blanc
Green pepper, raw sugarcane and a milky, almost cheesy funk hit first — this Barbancourt white leans hard into vegetal, floral clairin territory. Several tasters call it a "baby clairin" with a room-filling nose. At 55% it carries fruit and grass without turning rotten, though a metallic, medicinal edge divides people. Some sip it neat, others say it only clicks in a cocktail.

Fair rating I am pleasantly surprised by the bottling. It is very clearly reminiscent of a Clairin on the nose and develops a fresh, herbal, buttery intensity on the palate, which is not too overpowering. The 55% is well chosen. It can be enjoyed neat, but it should also be completely convincing as a mixer

On the one hand, unusual and exciting because of this light milky cappuccino, cocoa note. On the other hand, too sharp, too metallic/impure and unfortunately generally very "thin" and unaromatic. Almost meaningless in the daiquiri. Too bad.

My 1st blanc I like it a lot I can drink it neat or mix it a very good value rum

Unfortunately, this one didn't really convince me. It really is something special. For me, the paprika flavors are very dominant here and since I don't really like paprika, not my cup of tea at all. I'll try the rest of the sample in a daiquiri, maybe I'll like it a little better then. But not my cup of tea on its own.

This is a great improvement on a classic affordable high quality rum. More strongly flavored than the basic white, yet still very approachable for those not familiar with the extreme notes in some cane juice rums.
Review by DomM
Funky on the nose with strong vegetale and solvent notes. A hint of sweetness and berries. Clearly cane juice characteristics and Barbancourt funk. Similar on the palate. More sweetness than expected. Alcohol is reasonably well integrated. Good stuff but not as exciting as some clarins from Haiti.

Fabulous expression. Changed my mind about Barbancourt. Great value. Kind of defies the categories of nosing/tasting notes on this site; absolutely bursting with incredible off-axis flavors. Approaching the level of the lmdw clarins for less than half the price.

Excellent mixer. Grassy, herbaceous with a slight Clairin twang. A must have for the shelf!

Wow, this Barbancourt is very wild. Fermented fruit, herbal, sharp-edged and medicinal. It will probably present itself better in a cocktail than neat in a glass. Still very interesting, if it weren't for the spiciness.

This is a hefty expression for the price of what Barbencourt can produce ... The esters on the nose are insane .

Exciting journey in the glass, something different for a change. Extreme floral notes paired with some burnt sugar, not much fruit and a medicinal/metallic palate/finish. Finally coffee, or cappuccino. Only limited fun on its own.

Bought me a bottle of this extremely round Haitian rum on my way down to Costa del Sol. It’s produced from pure cane juice, an hybrid cane originally from Haiti. According to the EU definition is it not an agricole, even if it has clear similarities. The nose is round, fruity, floral and spicy with scents of citrus, banana, mango, herbs, eucalyptus, flowers and pepper. At the palate it’s round, fruity, floral, metallic and a little spicy with flavors of citrus, herbs, eucalyptus and copper. The finish is medium long, floral, fruity, spicy, metallic and dry.

Cologne-Bonn rum tasting: a clairin that brings nothing special to the table. Definitely suitable as a mixer, but pure in the lower range. Lots of fermented, vegetable, dairy products and sugar cane. Quite medicinal on the finish

This is an interesting cane juice rum. At 55% it's able to carry a good balance of fruit and vegetal flavor without the rotten vegetal odor that I get with lower proof rhums. It's almost like a blend of agricole and molasses rum flavors. It's quite nice. I drink this neat. EDIT: This has grown to be one of my favorites. It's good neat, it's good with lime. I will definitely rebuy.
