Vagabond Spirits Off-Road Rhum Series #02.1
Here's the surprise: several tasters say the Barbados half barely shows up, so the Jamaican side runs the show — flambéed banana, wood, licorice and candied fruit, with a salty, cigar-like edge on the finish. One reviewer even said blind he wouldn't have called it rum. At 59% it reads young, woody and a touch hot, with the two components sitting side by side rather than married.

Young, woody Jamaica-led blend, a touch hot A young cask-strength Barbados/Jamaica blend most find interesting but slightly disjointed — Jamaican banana and wood dominate, and several call it a bit hot and hard to place.

A fine discovery, it has all the makings of a great one. The balsam of Venice clearly adds an interesting touch, and the blend is very well crafted! Watch out for Off Road... To sum up, my tasting notes: Nose: Coconut, Woody, Dried apricot Mouth: Woody, Cigar, Candied fruit, Licorice, Salty Finish: Salty, Fruity, Woody

Hmm, it's really a bit difficult to classify. I wonder if it's because of the cup I'm tasting it from, as I don't have a glass. 😉 So the cup means I can't make an olfactory assessment. On the palate, however, I always find the rum better the longer it stands. It's somehow thin and spicy at the same time, but has a very interesting spicy note in the long finish that somehow makes me think of gin. Tasted blind, I wouldn't necessarily have guessed rum. Interesting! Oh, and this is a rum that doesn't seem at all suitable for cocktails - unless you're a freak who likes to experiment 😉.

A relatively pleasant blend, although the Barbados component is almost imperceptible! The nose is quite restrained with a little fruit. On the palate, I perceive burnt caramel, a little wood and spice. Almost no fruit at all. The alcohol is well integrated, light and smooth. The finish is relatively short and unspectacular. Jamaica is definitely dominant in this blend

Mhm difficult again. The two components are not clearly recognizable for me here. Still quite nice on the nose, but no real highlight for me in terms of taste. Somehow it tastes a bit like tobacco or an ashtray in the finish.
