The surprise here is how light and bright this Navy blend drinks — lots of Jamaican pineapple and ester up front, then Barbados vanilla and a darker Guyana pencil-shaving, chocolate side once you give it air. At 48.9% it's a Navy that "won't burn your palate," which is exactly what splits people. Overripe tropical fruit, caramel, sweet spice, a woody-dry finish.

Der Rum hat mich sehr überzeugt aufgrund seiner Raffinesse. Mit nur 49% bringt er Tiefgang und Komplexität mit, die für den Preis überraschen. Der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden, aber < 50% sollte das auch kein Problem sein. Dennoch findet man auch immer wieder Kandidaten, die zeigen, dass das nicht selbstverständlich ist. Die verschiedenen Stile der Länder sind klar zu erkennen und ausgewogen. Alles in allem ein klasse Rum, der mal nicht den Nerd-Nischen-Mainstream bedient, ich dafür aber auch mal mit Freunden teilen kann. Für mich ein exzellenter Daily Sipper.

Probiert auf dem 12 GRF in Berlin: Entspannter Blend. Leider nicht „at proof“, aber sehr harmonisch und trotzdem spürt man die einzelnen Bestandteile. Gefällt mir als Easy Sipper. Update: für mich nach wie vor ein PLV-Highlight. Harmonisch, rund, vollmundig, ein wirklich toller Blend für vergleichsweise kleines Geld!

Die finale Form dieses Blends finde ich tatsächlich sehr gelungen und kann auch durchaus mit einer jährlichen Sonderrelease von BlackTot mithalten, die deutlich teurer ist. Spannend bei diesem Rum ist, dass hier für mich in der Nase und anfangs auch am Gaumen das Hampden-Annanas-Profil dominiert, obwohl der Blend nur in einem Hampdenfass gereift wurde, aber laut RumDepot keinen Hampden enthält, wo ich mir für meinen geschmack mehr Guyana gewünscht hätte. Ich denke, dass hier auch die vielen eher ernüchternden Bewertungen herkommen, von den leuten, die ihn am Rumfest nur mal kurz probiert haben. Lässt man diesem Rum nämlich etwas Zeit und wartet, bis der Gaumen von den Geschmacksstoffen, die das Hampdenfass offenbar en masse abgegeben hat, gesättigt ist, entfaltet sich dieser Rum erst richtig. Hier schmecke ich dann richtig schön Barbados heraus und auch eine unterschwellige, aber durchaus präsente Guyana-Bleistiftnote. Man muss diesem Rum etwas Zeit im Glas und am Gaumen geben, dann macht er aber echt spaß. Außerdem haben wir hier einen Rum mit knapp 49% der einem endlich mal nicht nachhaltig den Gaumen verbrennt und auch schön mild ist, aber trotzdem wunderbar Geschmack und Komplexität transportiert. Ich finde diesen Rum entgegen vieler Meinungen alles andere als Flach, kann mir aber denken, dass die anfängliche Eindimensionalität duch das Hampdenfass diesen Eindruck erweckt.

Gefällt mir sehr gut, vielleicht etwas zu sanft. Mit etwas Zeit sind viele fruchtige Nuancen zu entdecken. Karamell und Eiche sind immer dabei - und eine Milchigkeit von Joghurt (mit Ananas) bis Schokolade.

#4508 07.12.2023 A pretty good rum especially when looking at the price tag. Medium fruity with nice spices. The palate is a tad light, would have loved a higher ABV. The finish is medium long and sweet with nice spices. Again a bit light. The empty glass has some caramel and chocolate.

Beim schnuppern taucht man ein in die Reise, Früchte sind sofort präsent, erst tropische, dann Zitrusfrüchte. Die Einflüsse von Guyana und Jamaica zeigen wie ein Musterschüler schnippend auf. Was die Nase verspricht wird am Gaumen abgeliefert und erweitert, wir reisen mit starkem Geschmack weiter, während der Trinidadsche Einfluss Boden gut macht. Ein Navy Blend, der hält was der Name verspricht. „Next Generation“ lautet der Untertitel, und das passt sehr gut, denn die ein oder andere Destille schmeckt der Hobbyconnoisseur schon beim ersten Tropfen. Schmeckt mir gut, passt zu einem Abend mit alten Urlaubsfotos.

Great nose of citrus fruits, peach, some mint and tropical fruits. Much more tart and dry on the palate. Strongly reminiscent of 90%+ dark chocolate, very dark and bitterly spicy with some cinnamon and tannins. Beautiful blend!

Eine ansprechende, fast schon zu gefällige Mixtur mit allen Markern, die ich bei einem Navy Blend erwarte. Jedoch kommt er bisweilen etwas schwachbrüstig rüber, was sich vor allem im an sich leckeren Abgang bemerkbar macht.

Auf dem GRF probiert. Hat mir erst sehr gut gefallen. Die Nase ist schön fruchtig und sehr rund. Hier finde ich vor allem den Jamaica und Barbados Anteil. Hier punktet der Navy Rum auf jeden Fall. Am Gaumen erstaunlich Süß. Aber irgendwie auch etwas Schwach auf der Brust. Hoffe auf ein weiteres Sample. Konnte mich nicht durchringen eine Flasche vor Ort mitzunehmen. Könnte aber ein sehr guter Daily Sipper sein. Und zum Schluss die Bitte...Wenn Navy Rum drauf steht geht doch bitte auf die 54,7%. Wäre mir lieber gewesen. Edit: Sample hat den Eindruck bestätigt. Insgesamt sehr gefällig. Schmeckt mir gut aber für den Preis müssten es 70cl sein damit ich darüber nachdenke eine Flasche zu kaufen.

Der Charakter ist recht hell für einen Navy – eigentlich fast zu hell. Hier sehr viel Jamaika im Vordergrund. Zudem etwas schwach auf der Brust und auch etwas alkoholisch. Aber für den Preis wirklich sehr in Ordnung und ein guter Blend.

rather fruity on the nose, more towards Jamaica and Barbados, less Guyana and Trinidad. The palate is also a little sharp-edged for 'only' 48.9%. The bottom line is that I find the Pusser's Deptford Dockyard Reserve, for example, much better, as its profile is much closer to the 'original' Royal Navy blend from the 60s. Perhaps the 'next generation' in the Ed 37 is deliberately intended to set it apart from the traditional navy blend... I don't quite understand it.
