Silver Seal T.D.L Trinidad Rum 1991
People chasing an unusual old Trinidad TDL will find this one worth a look. A few tasters call it almost a "blend of TDL and Caroni," with rubber, tar and varnish sitting under wood, mint, caramel and dried fruit. Oily body, well-buried alcohol despite 65.3%. Several felt that, for 31 years, it stayed a touch simpler than they hoped.

- Caroni-like tar notes
- Wanted more complexity

How does Silver Seal T.D.L Trinidad Rum 1991 taste?
Aggregated from 18 community reviews.
Oily old TDL with Caroni-like tar Loved as a richer, more complex TDL with Caroni-like tar and rubber, not the usual mint bomb. The recurring gripe: some wanted more depth for its age.
Fans of old Trinidad and Caroni-style tar and rubber
Anyone wanting a full menthol/mint bomb or sensitive to high ABV

A lovely and pleasant symphony of flavours. Ripe tropical fruits intertwine with notes of dark chocolate, toasted oak and a touch of tobacco, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a gentle warmth and a long-lasting delicious taste impression.

8,9:On the nose, the first impression is very fresh, but it quickly turns to heavy notes with rubber, tar, varnish, roasted, spicy wood with cream toffee, nuts, vanilla. The fruits are dried with apricots, raisins, as a molasses is minty. On aeration, the rum is fruitier, more diverse with tropical fruits like banana and yellow ones, the wood is smoky, as floral notes and chamomile show up. 9,2:On the palate, the attack is delicious with variety of fruits like an orange, dried apricots, raisins, yellow fruits like peaches, after resting with banana, as the wood is creamy, smoky and spicy with charred wood notes like nuts, caramel, later pancetta. The molasses is minty, earthy with tobacco.Industrial notes are tamed here, just medicinal varnish is noticed. 9,2:The finish is long, tasty with palate notes lingering on, with more industrial touch and notes like tar, rubber. The rum is very balanced, round..

#4820 17.08.2024 Tasting with Mads from Romhatten. This one was in the bar after the tasting finished and we had a burger 😊 Nose Intense, fresh, fruity, mint, spice, light wood, faint smoke, faint caramel, banana, varnish. Palate Oily, medium intense, balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, varnish, mint, light caramel, faint smoke, light tobacco, light orange. Finish Long and warm, wood, mint, fruits, banana, light caramel, faint tar. ABV is very well integrated.

How different the 91 TDLs are! Often very boring like a Spanish style - this one is much more complex with minty parts. Very good!
Review by Serge
Delicious TDL that shows the usual mix of fruit, wood, mint and caramel nicely ... for the price that is called, but for my taste clearly overpriced. Simply a better TDL. Not too minty with already charred notes with tar on the finish.
