The Whisky Jury Hampden HD JMH3 2012

If you expect a Hampden ester bomb, this one will throw you — it's a low-ester JMH3 that several tasters mistook for Worthy Park. Give it air and you get yellow fruit, apple, pear and pineapple over vanilla and light oak, with a creamy, honeyed body. "A Hampden made bourbon," as one member put it. Pleasant and fruity rather than wild.

The community says

I would guess that this is an OWH. Nice profile that reminds me more of Worthy Park than Hampden. However, the Mark is not my Hampden favorite.

In my opinion, this is one of the weaker bottlings from The Whisky Jury. Personally, the rum lacks a certain kick. Something is missing. All in all, quite good to drink in between, but unfortunately nothing more.

I would never have come up with Hampden blind. The aromas are too atypical. Initially, I have an artificial wine gum fruit note on the nose, which develops towards yellow fruit and mango after some time in the glass. Later, a hint of creme brulee is added. On the palate, it is initially creamy and soft. The alcohol is well integrated. At first I taste a strong sweetness of honey and again creme brulee. Then comes some vanilla, light wood, allspice, delicate esters and finally cookie. I can't find any more fruit... The finish is relatively short with caramel, vanilla and later dried fruit. A good bottling, but Hampden? I doubt that here 🤷🏻

#5236 14.04.2025 running some samples at home while listening to some Goa Psy Trance. Nose Light wood, faint roasted, light ester, light apple, light citrus, light glue, banana, light anise. Palate Oily, light ester, light wood, fruits, anise, light banana, light glue, light mint, light olive. Finish Long and warm, fruits, light citrus, light olive, light ester, light wood, faint smoke. Empty glass Light sour, light citrus, light chocolate, vanilla, light banana. Needs to rest for a while to really open up and the ABV to settle properly.

A beautiful rum with fruity esters and strong aromas, it has good pressure on the kettle. Tropical fruits, glue, vanilla and ginger spiciness, plus a splash of lime. No funk, but a powerful bass. I like it a lot. 89/100 or 7/10

Rather closed nose. Needs to be left to air for a long time. Discreet apple, crème brûlée, vanilla and wood. On the palate, wood dominates. Then fruit. A touch of fermentation. Acidic. Astringent. Long, warm finish (peppery).

A little Saturday-night sample that's sure to please! Here we have a good Jamaican with low Esters, going straight for the fruit, light woodiness, a nice (natural?) sweetness that sticks to the glass! The finish, with a hint of pepper or spice, is nice even if not super-long. A good moment without being exceptional.
