Savanna Unshared Cask for France 2016
Dark chocolate and peppermint lead here, wrapped in cold tobacco, cigar leaf, dried orange and a woody, earthy edge. Several tasters flag a Port-cask influence that adds gingerbread and dried fruit depth. The catch runs through the reviews: the fruit stays thin and the 62.1% isn't always cleanly integrated, so a few people found it dry and austere where others found real character.

How does Savanna Unshared Cask for France 2016 taste?
Aggregated from 46 community reviews.
Chocolate-mint, tobacco-heavy cask-strength Savanna Most find a characterful Savanna built on chocolate, mint, tobacco and Port spice. The recurring gripe: hot alcohol and short on fruit, with one taster finding it flat.

A very distinctive and pleasant nose of Läkerli (a Basel cookie with gingerbread). On the palate, the Läkerli is also prominent, with a slight vegetal note and a very light smokiness. An astonishing rum!
Review by TheRhumhoe
A particularly surprising Savanna for its age. The profile begins with a very pastry-like, round nose that is all about gourmandise. There's plenty of fruit of all kinds (strawberry, tropical fruit, grape, coconut), spices and very soft sweet notes. Tobacco, chocolate and woody notes add depth. After aeration, the nose reveals an appreciable hint of menthol, which blends well with the olfactory profile. The attack on the palate is very intense, marked by fruit (mango, pineapple, papaya, apricot, peach), floral notes and menthol. The greedy, pastry-like flavors remain, rounding out the finish. Spice and woodiness support the palate, with a little spiciness, without being distracting. The profile is very tasty. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, sweet and slightly mentholated. Spice, fruit, wood and pastry make for a seamless aromatic combination that works well and lingers for many minutes. A generous, rich and delicate Savanna that will delight fans of the distillery.

Very rich nose: wood, tobacco, citrus, green apple. Chocolate, too. On the palate, the attack is initially lively and spicy. Then tobacco, a touch of menthol. Then chocolate. Surprisingly pleasant. The finish is warm and showery, chocolatey, with a touch of espresso bitterness. Another very successful unshared cask.

This rum is really very good. The alcohol may be a little strong, but the Savanna hallmarks are still there, along with the port cask. In short, a good rum, with spicy notes that further enhance its alcoholic strength.

On the nose, there's some solvent on first approach; this rum needs a little patience at the bottom of the glass to develop that sublime Port finish aroma. On the palate, it's incredible how well the alcohol is integrated: you can barely feel the 62.1% - what a success! It's round, spicy and woody, with the sweetness of cognac and port blending so well. The finish is quite long, and the spiciness lingers for a while on the taste buds, which is quite pleasant. For me, this Savanna is a fine discovery at a price commensurate with its quality. Don't be alarmed by its 62.1% - you can't really feel it, it's very well made - I really recommend it.

The rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favourites. I recommend everyone to try especially the higher ester pieces like Grand arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few little drops of liquid for a long time.
