Swell de Spirits Travellers Private Garden N°5 (Caves Deymier) 2008

Sip this one slowly and keep water nearby — at 68.1% it's a serious pour. Expect cookie dough, vanilla, toffee and coconut with a big wave of dried mango, oily and dessert-like. Several tasters call the alcohol beautifully integrated for the strength, though a few still knock it back with a splash of water. Classic Belize done richly.

The community says
  • Cookie dough sweetness
  • Juicy dried mango
  • But: Very high ABV

Aggregated from 43 community reviews.

Rich, dessert-like Belize at full cask power Loved as a rich, pastry-and-tropical-fruit Belize with the high ABV surprisingly well tucked in. The recurring catch: a few find it simply too hot neat and reach for water.

Perfect for

Cask-strength fans who love sweet, pastry-heavy tropical Belize rum

Less suitable for

RumX and Swell de Spirit online tasting, March 2024. Dark on the nose, with woody notes, but also fresh with menthol and pastry-like with vanilla and coconut. The attack is quite lively, with pastry, umami, vanilla and pineapple taking center stage. The touch of varnish adds depth. For me, the finish is a little disappointing, as it feels shortened despite its balance and complexity. The empty glass reveals a vegetal, tobacco and even floral side, absent from the palate and nose.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to take part in the master class. But now I'm making up for it step by step, starting with this Belize. Very tasty, with a smooth, almost silky structure on the palate. Larger sips reveal the typical Belize flavors, especially roasted almonds, without becoming mouth-filling or losing much of the previously mentioned structure. The finish could easily be longer =P Fantastic how well the alcohol is integrated here!

Très belle sélection de Swell de Spirits. Longueur remarquable.

#4677 28.03.2024 Very nice online Masterclass with Swell de Spirits. Nose Light, marzipan, light dried fruit, light caramel, light floral, light glue, faint roasted wood. Palate Spicy, wood, light roasted, naturally sweet, oily, faint chocolate, marzipan, dried fruit Finish Long and warm, wood, tannins, light caramel, light mint, citrus The empty glass has some cherry and light herbs.

Belize at a great level: The nose is already very archetypal and convincing with a very appealing sweet melange of oak, vanilla, toffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel tops this impression with an extreme aromatic richness full of toffee, cookie dough and chocolate sweetness in combination with fruity notes and flanking influences of barrel notes and spices. Exquisite Belize rum.

Travellers is the rum that put Belize on the map. It began in 1953 as a bar in Belize City, grew into a family distillery under the Perdomo name, and today is synonymous with Belize rum. Its molasses spirit comes off a hurricane-proofed column still in three different marques, and a deep stock of aged casks has made it a quiet favourite of independent bottlers around the world.
