Rest & Be Thankful Long Pond LSO 1998
Most tasters agree the party is on the palate, not the nose. Give this one time — the nose comes across faint and light, roasted wood, faint coffee, a little citrus — but the mouth opens up: overripe sweetness, gooseberry, tannins, pencil shavings and a savoury, bacon-fat edge, then dry esters in the back half. A lighter Long Pond mark, but 25 years of cask show clearly.

Master tasting from Rest & Be Thankful via RumX A wonderfully subtle nose full of sweet fruit. On the palate it is slightly soft and sweet with restrained fruit... nutty and light coffee flavors develop later. The finish is fresh (mint) paired with coffee. This LP is my favorite of today's tasting (very tasty)

Very light rum for the age of 25 years. I have no association with Long Pond on the nose, but that's not surprising because this is one of the lighter marks. Nevertheless, some ITP rums from Long Pond seem much more intense to me, although LSO and ITP are the equivalent mark. Perhaps LSO is a recipe that also leads to different aromatic results. A special feature I find on the nose is wet, musty wood... On the palate, I find the rum more balanced with a good portion of sweetness, fruit and spice. Towards the finish, the sweetness decreases and is replaced by tannins, olives and a nice dryness. The fruit comes through briefly in between. Good rum, unexpectedly light for its age. However, I know cheaper bottlings of this brand that I like more.

Fruity taste as well as honey, after a while sharply burning. The aftertaste is pleasantly lingering woodiness. Good comfortable Jamaica - but probably not worth the price

Tasted during the RumX masterclass. Huge thanks the guys from R&BT for presenting their range! Very nice exploration of some low(we) ester marks. While some of the noses were a little light, the long aged expressions are very interesting on the palate across the board. Very interesting! :) Very round while intense on the palate. The long maturation really did a good job here.

Frische Zitrus- Tropenfruchtaromen, knackige Röstnoten, Holzeinflüsse, leichte Karamell- und Kaffeenoten. Ausdrucksstark, aromatisch durchaus vielseitig, auch wenn mir das Profil etwas zu herb daherkommt.

After the RumX R&BT tasting on February 7, I tasted the rest again with more calm. The seventh rum and the second Long Pond. But now an LSO, still a long way from the brute TECA, TECC... but here I find more typical LP DNA. On the palate, citrus fruits, green vegetables and already a little meaty notes and gravy... spicy, bacony and toffee-sweet on the palate.

RumX/Kirsch online tasting Rest&Be Thankful! 25 years old, a light pot and with just over 120 gr/hlpa ester at the upper end of the LSO/ITP range. Nose: the higher ester content compared to the ITP results in much more varied aromas. Doesn't seem so closed at the beginning, but rather fresh with citrus and solvents. The woody spiciness reminds me a little of pencil lead or peanut. Now the fruit becomes a little finer with sweet and sour gooseberry and a delicate caramel-honey note. Needs time, but then beautiful. 8.4 Palate: delicious and more intense than the nose. First impression is sweet, bacony, spicy, aniseed and licorice. Then a good amount of pencil shavings, which mixes pleasantly with the licorice. Somehow also citrusy with gooseberry, but the sweetness clearly comes from the licorice, which I like. 8,5

My first LSO! So I was excited and a bit disappointed with the first schlick. Very interesting long pond notes with a nice ester accompaniment. Still fruity and restrained on the nose, but unfortunately rather entertaining on the palate. The finish is somehow longer than expected. The long barrel ageing is recognizable. In my opinion, the price is not justified at 50cl (despite its age).

Post-tasting from the Mastertasting of Rest & Be Thankful via RumX, which I unfortunately missed. A comparison of the RX16269 and RX16270. The Long Pond DNA is clearly recognizable in both. Both beautiful rums, but in my opinion too overpriced. In conclusion, I liked the ITP better.

Tasted as part of the Rest&Be Thankful Masterclass, and a second time in Rube alone. While in the Maserclass all the rums were tasted in ascending order of ester content (which was absolutely fine), I decided to taste the two Low Ester Long Ponds separately in the second round. Both are convincing with fine notes, but I like the LSO a little more overall, as it has more of the hearty spiciness that makes an LP for me. The ITP has a more pleasant mouthfeel and better integrated AbV. In general, I would have liked a more precise indication of the duration of the tropical pre-ageing (which is the essential part for me) in this price range.

The second Rest & Be thankful Long Pond in this tasting has slightly more esters and carries the LSO mark. This plus is immediately noticeable on the nose. The citrus fruits are also clearly present here, but far less dominant. The bacon notes on the palate can also be found here, but are much less pronounced than in the ITP. The taste tends towards fermented, but this is offset by the elegance of floral tea notes. However, I liked the bacon notes a little better, which is why this bottling remains the 2nd winner here

Im Geruch schwach und verhalten. Im Geschmack dann eine explosion. Darauf war ich nicht vorbereitet. Sehr viele und vor allem sehr intensive Aromen von tropischen Früchten bis hin zu röstaromen und tanine. Viele Gewürze. Aber intensivität ist echt krass. Er ist auch sehr langatmig Sollte man unbedingt mal probieren

Teil des Rest & Be Thankful tastings (danke an RumX und F.L.O. fürs Teilen). Schöne und interessante Veranstaltung. Alle Kanditaten hatten eine sehr schöne Nase. Am besten haben mir das LSO und MPG Profil zugesagt. Insgesamt fehlte mir aber oft die tropische Reifung.

Rather gentle & light on the nose. Spices & coffee, but need to search for it. Creamy mouthfeel, fruity, medium esters. Astringent, dry & oily mouthfeel. Vanilla sweetness. Much better than the nose! Great alcohol integration, all if the flavors and none of the burn. Unfortunately finish a bit short.

Ein Long Pond mit einer tollen röstigen Nase, die einen ausbalancierten Eindruck hinterlässt. Im Mund mit Tendenz Richtung pflanzlich, holzig und dunkel herb, ähnlich im Abgang. Etwas fehlt diesem Rum allerdings, um eine höhere Bewertung zu erhalten.

In diesem gut gereiften Long Pond vereinen sich fruchtige Frische und röstige Holzigkeit auf angenehme Weise, wobei der Geruch eher von den lebendigen Aromen nicht ganz reifer Früchte dominiert wird, während sich der Röstgrad mit längerem Aufenthalt im Mund (und insbesondere im Abgang) deutlich steigert.

Überraschend leicht bis fast langweilig in der Nase, im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern. Entweder steigt meine Nase hier gerade aus, oder er ist wirklich sehr dezent. Am Gaumen passiert dann aber deutlich mehr. Überreife Süße, sehr ausgewogenes Holz. Kippt in der zweiten Hälfte in sehr potete Ester, wird trocken und sehr vielschichtig. Abzug für die wirklich schwache Nase.

Vielschichtig. Holz mit Früchten und Früchte mit Holz. Für mich dürfte es ein wenig mehr Ester sein. Später sogar leicht malzig im Abgang. Eine leicht bittere Mandelnote. Viel schönes dabei. Den vermeldeten Preis von >200€ hätte ich dafür aber nicht zahlen mögen. Zum Glück gabs den im Angebot.
