The surprise here is how un-Jamaican it feels at first: one taster nailed it as "20% of LP with 80% of FSQ," reading like a spicy Barbados rum before the pot-still side shows up. Expect heavy spice — licorice, cinnamon, nutmeg — plus vanilla, leather, cherry and tropical fruit, over a lightly roasted, bitter-edged finish. At 66.6% it's hot; a few drops of water helps a lot.

Very spicy LP. Dark fruits, honey, caramel, papaya, and peach... slightly peppery. Tastes and smells very tropical. Personally, I don't find the alcohol disturbing at all. Rum tasted after about 30 minutes in the glass.

Pretty hot LP that needs some water to tame. Shows nice tropical fruits and hints of esters (or is it peppery heat? Not sure). Overall a bit unbalanced to warrant a higher score.

The nose starts with bourbon vanilla, fruits and a restrained long pond profile. Tropical overripe fruit, red berries and a hint of wood polish. The alcohol is very present and stings on the nose. Very balanced overall. On the palate, first sour fruits then more woody and toasty. The finish continues in the same way, the fruitiness disappears quickly and a bitter note is added. The rum starts off more like a very well-balanced Foursquare, the Jamaican origin only becomes clear on the palate. The alcohol is quite dominant, a few drops of water help and at the same time strengthen the woody notes and also a little of the bitter side. A very good rum, for Long Pond rather well-behaved and not in the same intensity league as, for example, the Cambridge STCE.

Low Ester LP...yes, definitely...but quite successful...I like the slightly spicier profile. It's not an easy sipper, but after about 1 hour in the glass it's already much more harmonious than at the beginning and the alcohol is well tamed

Der 2007er Long Pond von Spirits Project ist recht würzig mit eher wenig fruchtigen Noten. Dazu etwas röstig, leicht bitter. Ich mag eher die fruchtigen LP, aber hier kommt auch noch der schlecht integrierte Alkohol hinzu.

Mhm, I find this Long Pond very strange; I really like the Cambridge 2010. But this one reminds me more of a Clarendon. So it doesn't really suit my taste. Edit: tasted it again and diluted it with a few drops of water. I find it much more accessible now. But it still doesn't really appeal to me. Revised my rating slightly upwards.

In der Nase ist der alkohol sehr präsent dicht gefolgt von schönen holz, leder, vanille aromen. Typischer Long Pond! Im gaumen ist der alkohol auch präsent jedoch nach 15min im glas sehr erträglich aber nicht perfekt eingebunden. Dunkle früchte, rosinen pflaume ergänzen die noten aus der nase dann im Gaumen.

Der hohe ABV ist leider sowohl am Gaumen (mit der Zeit wird es etwas besser) als auch anfangs an der Nase recht präsent. Insgesamt erinnert mich das Profil eher an einen Clarendon als an einen Long Pond.

Yo sailors, Long Pond - the spirits project - 🇯🇲 - 66.6% Long Pond, located in Trelawny in northern Jamaica, is a distillery founded at the end of the 18th century using large John Dore and Vendôme pot stills. They are capable of producing rums with all levels of esters, allowing for a wide range of flavor profiles. A marvel from the Belgian bottler "Spirits project," aged 15 years and bottled at an impressive 66.6%. The relatively low ester content might make you think of a rum from Barbados or Saint Lucia. This rum is very much focused on spices, with the triad of licorice, cinnamon, and nutmeg well present. On the fruit side, cherry takes up quite a bit of space along with some other stone fruits. Notes of almonds, vanilla, caramel, English candy, and buttery flavors add a touch of indulgence. The leather is omnipresent and reminds me of the smell inside an old car. You can easily guess the aging in well-used barrels with its smoky and even charcoal notes that give a slight astringency/bitterness on the finish. Cheers!

L’alcool manque d’intégration, le profil est très épicé avec une légère amertume. Il lui manque clairement du fruit pour apporter de la gourmandise. ➡️ Une bouteille qui impressionne plus qu’elle ne séduit.

Beautifully balanced low ester Long Pond. Low ester but rich in flavours. The ABV gives it that extra punch and does not bother me. Light nose, strong flavours, long finish. Spicy, vanilla, woody, fruit. Great botteling! We need more of this from Spirits Project.

08/02/25: Tasted alongside 6 other Long Ponds. This caught me by surprise. This was the second time I got to taste it, and found it very tasty this time around. Rather unique profile compared to the other bottles I tasted that day. Good find.

Sehr interessanter Low Ester Long Pond. Viel dunkle Frucht und schwere Süße. Erstaunliche Reife und Farbe für einen kontinentalen LP im Refill Fass. Ich tippe sehr stark auf fast vollständige tropische Reifung. Sehr guter Rum!
