"One of my best rums ever" from one taster, "quite the deception" from another — this 25-year Caroni divides. Expect a fruit-forward 1998: ripe red fruits, banana, cocoa, vanilla and a light tar-and-rubber whisper rather than the greasy, dirty Caroni some crave. The bourbon cask shows, alcohol is well integrated for 61.9%, and the dirty notes only creep in after a long rest.

Oh man, was ein geiler Rum, auf jeden Fall noch etwas besser als der andere Caroni von Swell de Spirits. Dafür nochmals danke an Mika. Aber schöne Schokonote, irgendwie einfach fast perfekt dieser Rum. Lecker...

A l’ouverture au nez c’est complètement fermé après un peu d’aération 15/20 min ça va un peu mieux on peu sentir le fruit confit ça a l’aire très gourmand une légère odeur de goudron et pointe de vanille mais l’alcool est très présent Après 45 min 1h au nez c’est beaucoup mieux en bouche c’est assez différent le côté alcool qu’il y’a au nez disparaît complètement l’alcool est très bien intégré un petit goût de chocolat de pâtes de fruit et un léger hydrocarbure qui est pas désagréable La fin n’est pas très longue mais pas trop courte non plus j’ai un goût de tabac froid qui me surprend n’étant pas fumeur et je n’aime pas du tout l’odeur du tabac froid, là ça me plaît énormément.

Ja hier mal wieder ein Caroni von swell de spirits aus den 98 Jahrgang. Ich hatte schon bessere Caroni. Trotzdem natürlich absolute Champions League. Man erkennt eine Note von Kakao und Schokolade. Schon sehr geil

Une très belle sélection.. C'est impressionnant au niveau intégration d'alcool.. Bcp d'aération pour un nez qui se développe au fil des minutes.. En bouche par contre c'est excellent beaucoup de menthe de fruits rouges toujours ces hydrocarbures mais c'est pas très sale non plus..

Nez fermé à l'ouverture de la bouteille. Après 5 min, pas besoin de se pencher sur le verre. On trouve le côté lourd, goudron avec un peu de fumé. Explose en bouche dans l'idée d'une salade de fruits rouges (framboise) mélangés aux fruits tropicaux avec un peu de citron puis laisse place aux notes dures avec un peu de boisé et toujours de la fraîcheur. Quand on l'avale il coupe le souffle avec un mélange goudron et bois. Finale sans fin qui me laisse un goût de cuir pendant plusieurs minutes.

Smoky, inky nose, bit peated but quite round. Very pleasant. Powerful. Fills the air. One of the best tried so far. Powerful attack. Hints of leather, cloves but still fresh. Bit smoky as well. Overpowering at first. Very long and persistent Very enjoyable

Au nez, on sait de suite qu’on a affaire à un Caroni, l’alcool se fait discret on a un poil d’hydrocarbure et beaucoup de fruité, du boisé, Cacao, feuille de Tabac, caramel, léger caoutchouc. En bouche, l’attaque est franche on a de suite les marqueurs habituels du Caroni, Caoutchouc, Feuille de tabac, on a aussi le côté très fruité qui se confirme en bouche, banane, fruit rouge, pruneau, pêche et une pointe de fraicheur mentholée. En finale, on a une bonne longueur, toujours très fruité et épicé ! De la cannelle, du tabac et un boisé léger, je placerais ce Caroni entre un heavy et un light avec une bonne intégration des 61,9° d’alcool.

Caroni swell Nez : j’ai beaucoup de caoutchouc, le côté hydrocarbure est là également. Un petit côté vif / acide qui ressort qui rappel le zeste de citron. J’ai un d’autres fruits style orange / banane. Les fruits sont mûrs et compotés. J’ai pas trop le menthol ni le floral auquel on pourrait s’attendre. J’ai énormément de fraises après être retourné dedans après le TDL 2003, pareil avec un côté lacté qui apparaît (yop fraise). C’est loin d’un caroni bien fat. Quand j’aere fort j’ai un côté peinture fraîche qui vient mais pas écœurant, agréable. Globalement nez complexe et un peu fermé. Bouche : côté piment / poivre, des épices que j’avais pas au nez. Les fruits restent présents mais c’est doux. C’est très englobant, assez gras (mais pas autant qu’un caroni fat). Alcool extrêmement bien intégré. Après le TDL 2003 j’ai plus le côté heavy qui ressort dans celui ci. Finale : le piquant reste un peu, une amertume prend place. 87/100

Très gourmand, très pâtissier, flan à la vanille, léger caoutchouc, un fond de tarte grillé, de la crème pâtissière, du cassis, très bien si on cherche un caroni rond et pâtissier, grosse longueur, belle amplitude.

Nose is very nice with just the right amount of dirt, smokeyness and some fruits and sweetness - well balanced. Same sensation on the palate. Very good cask out of the 98 vintage - intense yet well balanced. The influence of the bourbon cask is quite pronounced.

#4165 This is a very nice and subtle Caroni that has a very good balance both in the flavours and the ABV. Love the fruity bit and that the Caroni flavours develop while it rests.

Wir kommen im Tasting zu den Schwergewichten. Ja, an der Nase fein angekokelte Autoreifen. Aber am Gaumen hat er mir einen Ticken zu viel Süße, um gegen die parallel verkosteten Schwergewichte zu bestehen.
