Raisins, dark spice and a thick layer of PX sherry hit first — so thick that several tasters say it buries the rum underneath. Dig past it and there's ripe fruit, virgin-oak wood and a grassy, almost agricole edge from this young Ghanaian pot still. At 67% it cracks in hard; a few drops of water make it rounder and more floral. People genuinely split on it.

Bei diesem Rum scheiden sich ja so richtig die Geister - also wenn jemand noch ne Flasche hat, die ihm nicht schmeckt und die er loswerden möchte, opfere ich mich gerne - das Ding ist der Hammer ! Tatsächlich finde ich, hat er ein total außergewöhnliches Geschmacksprofil. Diese Mischung aus VirginOak und PX-Sherry (aus einem meiner Sensorik nach haben die das Fass mit sehr dickem Sherrysirup ausgestrichen, der auch im Endprodukt gelandet ist ) verleiht diesem Rum eine Tiefe und Intensität, die er für sein junges Alter noch gar nicht haben kann. Am außergewohnlichsten finde ich hier die Palisanderholznote, wie wenn man frisches Grenadill oder Rosenholz schneidet. Eine gewisse Kräuterigkeit, Pfeffer und etwas Traubensäure und schon recht süß - und irgendwo kommt dann noch eine Agricolenote raus, aber eben kein alter gelagerter, sondern etwas junges, frisches grasiges, was einen spannenden Gegenpol zu dem Holz, den Rosinen und einem Hauch Tabak liefert. Gefällt mir wirklich ausgezeichnet .

Die 67,1% krachen erstmal gut rein, sind aber dennoch gut eingebunden und sorgen für eine kleine Explosion auf der Zunge. Danach entfalten sich erst angenehm dunkle Aromen, wird dann langsam süßer und man kann angenehm lange was davon auf der Zunge haben. Mit ein wenig Wasser wird er direkt floraler und noch runder, wird fruchtiger aber nicht so aufdringlich ester-lastig wie vielleicht mancher Vertreter aus Jamaika. Gefällt mir sehr gut!

#4719 04.05.2024 Had a nice exclusive tasting at Romdeluxe with our little rum group. Nose Intense, dried fruit, light citrus, ester, light smoke, grass. Palate Warm, round, wood, light marzipan, fruity, dried fruit, naturally sweet, faint smoke, spicy. Finish Long and warm, light wood, dried fruit, light citrus, light grass, faint floral.

Eine Bewertung mit Punkten werde ich nachtragen, wenn die Samples von dem Split verteilt sind. Edit: alles in allem ein schönes Profil, doch meiner Meinung nach noch ein bißchen zu unreif. Im Nachhinein gesehen finde ich den Preis auch etwas zu hoch angesetzt. Aber das kennt man ja von Romdeluxe

An "exciting" bottling. Unlike many bottlings from Ghana, the crass esters do not immediately predominate here, which leaves me a bit surprised at first. After the initial astonishment, however, I then discover a hint of it behind a good layer of spice, raisins and other dark notes. There must have been a lot of sherry in the ex-sherry cask here, which strictly speaking is no longer a finish, but a thick one. There is little of the original rum to be discovered, only when you have penetrated the "comforting" layer of sherry do you find something reminiscent of Nanny 2, Cudjoe or the Honeybadger. Especially late on the palate and in the finish, tangy fruity notes come through, but they can easily be mistaken for a pungent alcohol sharpness. Excitingly, a hint of ester remains, especially long after swallowing. Blindly, I might have even put this rum after Madeira, as the combination of the esters with the sherry also provides a grassy, slightly agricolic note. Somehow exciting, but still clearly too much finish for me.

Die Nase ist eigentlich vielversprechend….aber, selbst hier ist der Alkohol deutlich wahrnehmbar… und am Gaumen..überdeckt er leider die dezent wahrnehmbaren vielfältigen Frucht- und Gewürzaromen, schade… Potenzial hat er allemal

Bin ohnehin kein großer Freund von Sherry-Finishes, aber hier überdeckt es zusätzlich deutlich das schön fruchtige Profil des Rums. Experiment somit aus meiner Sicht nicht gelungen.

Sherry Freunde kommen hier voll auf ihre Kosten. Der Rum wird aber leider größtenteils davon überdeckt. Auch der Alkohol könnte besser integriert sein. Da sind andere Abfüllungen besser ausbalanciert.
