CDI T.D.L Trinidad (Colheitas / Auld Alliance) 2003

One for TDL regulars who chase that Trinidad mint-menthol signature. This 2003 leans dry and bright — cool mint, kumquat, a little peach and mango, soft oak and vanilla behind. The peppery finish stays fresh, almost like chewing dried mint. Most agree the 19 years sanded down the usual 2003 punch, so it drinks lighter and calmer than its siblings.

Dry, minty aged Trinidad, calmer than its siblings A well-liked but not standout TDL: the mint's there and the alcohol's well integrated, yet several tasters find it tamer and less expressive than other 2003 bottlings.

Intense mint and menthol notes lingering on the nose. Notes from the cask - vanilla and wood - also present creating a balanced profile. Balance is also what you find in the palate. Despite its age, this release shows a lighter profile versus other 2003 bottlings. Akin to the Single Cask Nation Angostura release. All classic notes are there yet in a less heavy overall composition. Refreshing.

Nice TDL that can't really stand out... Typical notes of mint, chocolate and caramel. Delicious but not very recognizable. Still grateful to be able to try it.

This bottling doesn't quite convince me. All the markers of the 2003 vintage are present (mint/menthol/caramel), but they are very subdued. In addition, the alcohol is not particularly well integrated. This is not a bad rum, but compared to the other 2003 vintages, it falls a little short.

Another T.D.L from 2003, this one is again more in the minty direction. But all in all a not really convincing bottling that leaves a lasting impression. Thanks to Alex_Kunath for sharing.

Angostura is famous for a bottle most people never drink neat. The bitters house founded in 1824 became Trinidad's only rum distillery, and its arm Trinidad Distillers makes a clean, column-distilled, Spanish-style rum unlike the heavy funk of Jamaica or Guyana. The same plant still guards the secret recipe for the world's most famous cocktail bitters.
