Weinbrennerei Rouette & Cie. GmbH Original Batavia Arrac

5.0/10 12 community reviews ↓

Burnt rubber, plastic and solvent come straight out of the glass — this Indonesian Batavia arrack, bottled at 58%, is one of the most divisive things members have poured. One taster sums it up as "dirty, smokey and intensive," and that's the friendly read. Others land on burnt tires, benzene and charred meat. Fermented, overripe, chemical — an oddity for the deeply curious, not a comfort pour.

2.8/10

Arra(c)k 2.0 tasting by Artur. An unpleasant, extreme nose of chemicals and sugar, strawberry candy and bitterness, wood and ferment, burnt tires. The palate is also very unpleasant, with additional smoky peat and bitterness. The burnt-tire aspect is more pronounced than on the nose. The finish is long, but with the same aroma. I find it very unpleasant, but I'll raise the score one point for its super originality.
