Last Drop Distillers Very Old Jamaica Rum 1976
Near-unanimous love here, with one honest dissent about the roast going too far. A 1976 pot-still Jamaican that leans old glue, grilled pineapple and dark roasted wood over the ester funk — decades of cask have tamed the fruit. Despite 68.5% and 43 years, tasters keep noting how well the alcohol sits and how the wood never fully takes over. The finish runs on and on.

#5337 19.11.2023 Enjoying this nice sample that was a birthday present to myself from myself. Old tasting that I have forgotten to add, luckily I still have everything on paper. I should have bought a bottle back then seeing the price now. Nose Medium intense, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, light varnish, light coconut, spice, pineapple. Palate Oily, medium intense, balanced, wood, light roasted, light cherry, faint coffee, light banana, spice, fruity, light caramel. Finish Long, wood, fruits, faint floral, faint coffee, pineapple, light caramel. Note Incredible balance of ABV and wood. Especially the wood is a surprise because I'd expected a very woody Palate and finish.

A dream of a rum! Jamaica is clearly recognizable from start to finish, but has dirty notes, especially on the palate. The barrel influence is strong, but does not mask the fruit and esters. Alcohol perfectly integrated! An absolute must-taste, especially for lovers of Jamaican rums!

Bottle share during FRS x RRS in Jamaica, 2023. Bottle 113 of 183 was sipped. Rested for 3.5 hours prior to sipping. Warm woody roasted aroma. Smoky, oaky, orange peel taste with tropical fruit taking a backseat. Moderate alcohol punch. Exceptionally long finish of tobacco and leather. Cloudy residue remained in glass.

Already very intense on the nose, glue, tropical maturation (?!). In any case, the palate is very demanding due to the alcohol content alone, glue, marzipan, hardly any ester funk, lots of intense tropical maturation, wood, light spices. I've just tasted a few Long Ponds next to it. They are all different from this one. The Velier NRJ Cambridge Rx 13414 comes closest to this one. Could be the same marrow. Overall really good, unique, but the price is of course also unique...

Wow, what a board!🤯🇯🇲💣💥🦄💯 Could be a really old Long Pond or Clarendon in terms of aroma, but would rather guess Long Pond, but also slightly reminiscent of New Yarmouth because of the coconut. An incredibly dense, concentrated nose of toasted coconut, ripe banana, fresh paint can and burnt caramel. The palate is really unusually elegant, the alcohol is perfectly integrated, the finish is extremely long-lasting and intense. Dark chocolate, strong mocha, fully ripe pineapple, banana and lime, as well as some cherry with cardamom and caramel. Surprisingly not too woody despite its great age. The tropical aging can be seen and above all tasted here, especially in comparison to the cees van Wees. Super cool stuff and definitely a unicorn in the rum world!🤤🦄💯🇯🇲💥💪🏼

Impressive spec. Very intense and mature on the nose and palate, wood clearly has the upper hand. For my taste, however, the roasted notes are too dominant here, which prevents a better rating. Thanks to Armin for the opportunity to try this rum.

Here is my third written review. WOW First: The 43 years of barrel maturation was mostly in Liverpool. After pouring, a load of glue. The 68.5% is barely there on the nose. After 10 minutes, all kinds of spices and roasted aromas appear. The taste is initially intensely woody with a pronounced roastiness. Then dark coffee beans and some chocolate. A few fruits such as orange and overripe banana. Therefore also somewhat sweet. I couldn't detect the nutmeg as promised on the bottle. The finish is a little dry in the mouth, but lasts forever.

Unfortunately for me, this is right up my alley. Ester and glue, taninnes and pineapples, tropical fruit. On the palate wood and Ananas..very tamed ester. Powerful rum that finishes with old ash and nice bitter notes. This is strong and complex. I love it
