Sipped neat at full 65%, this young MHOBA hits with raw esters, solvent and a whiff of burnt rubber that one taster wanted to pour down the sink. Give it air and the fruit and French-oak spice push through — cherry, tropical notes, a surprising amount of wood for a one-year rum. No. 5: Yes, this rum is not bad. Quite woody on the nose and also very strong. The woody taste continues on the palate. I also find that it tastes slightly fruity. Overall score 8.4 :)

Ein typischer Mhoba, der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden und mit einem super guten und langen Finish. In der Nase ein Hauch von Ester und Lösungsmittel. Im Geschmack wird insbesondere das Ester sehr eindeutig.

Typical solid Mhoba, but on the palate just too young and impetuous and a little too spicy for me. Does a one-year-old rum, even if it is wonderfully designed and comes from a single cask, really have to cost more than EUR 100 these days? 🙄

So, as I already wrote on the WR10, I'm not that experienced with Mhoba yet and it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. It's sometimes too tiring for me. Lots of esters and solvents, which is great of course, but it's quite complex. Slight sweetness, some wood with a fruit basket. I found the cherry bottling better in direct comparison.

Mein erster MHOBA. Zunächst muss ich anmerken, wie gut die 65% eingebunden sind, insbesondere an der Nase. Lösungsmittel mit Estern. Am Gaumen angenehm süß und erstaunlich viel Würze vom Holz für nur ein Jahr.

Jamaica-style nose, like all the Mhoba range, with alcohol and esters. The palate is very spirituous, leaning towards whisky or bourbon, with no rum and a peaty finish!
