Piccadilly distilleries Camikara Cask Aged Rum 2009

Tropical fruit leads here — passion fruit, papaya, a bit of honey and banana — over a cane-juice base that barely reads as agricole. Distilled in India in 2009 and aged 12 years at 50%. The nose wins people over, but the palate turns bitter-orange and slightly sour, with unripe fruit and a thin, spirity feel. Several tasters wanted more cask presence after 12 years.

More intense in all respects than its eight-year-old sister bottling, although the basic profile of the rum is otherwise very similar. Beautiful tropical fruits with spicy oak notes and herbs. However, there is a buttery undertone that becomes more and more cheesy, which unfortunately reminds me of baby vomit along with the fermented basic mood and clouds the mood somewhat.

In itself a tasty rum but with 94% Angels share and 12y maturing time in India I would have expected more barrel influence. All in all, unfortunately a bit insignificant and I don't recognize any special DNA here... Doesn't convince me.

Heute mal als erstes ein Inder. 😃 Schöne fruchtige Nase, die mich etwas an Long Pond erinnert. Nichts was man unbedingt trinken muss.

Aged rum

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 16,000 Rums

Aged rum is where the spirit earns its complexity. In a tropical warehouse a barrel loses 6 to 10 percent of its contents to evaporation every year, which is why an 8-year Caribbean rum can taste deeper than a 20-year Scotch. This page gathers every rum on RumX that has spent real time in wood, with community ratings to separate the genuinely mature from the merely dark.
