Most tasters call this a sweeter, rounder 1996 Caroni — tar and rubber threaded with caramel, chocolate, coffee and roasted nuts, the 63% remarkably well tucked in. A couple find it almost too tame: one says it's "lacking character," another wouldn't peg it as Caroni blind. Long, dry, tannic finish.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Beautiful Caroni with the classic sweetness of the 96 vintage. Fascinating nose with typical HTR notes and the oak sweetness from tropical storage that is so typical of the 1996 vintage. Relatively dry on the palate, the tannins dry out the mouth directly and prepare the ground for tar and rubber, wood, pepper, aniseed and coffee as well as the obligatory heavy 96 caramel sweetness. The alcohol content is also noticeable and provides some fire. All in all, a strong but nevertheless well-rounded profile and a worthy 96 Caroni that grows on me a little more with every new tasting. An excellent release.

Das erste Mal am Catawiki Stand am 1. GAF in Stuttgart probiert und dort nur auf der schnelle eine Messebewertung abgegeben. Jetzt nochmal ein Sample davon gefunden und nochmal probiert. Es bleibt bei der Punktezahl. Sehr toller 96er "süß-süffiger" Caroni. Ein nochmaliger Vergleich mit anderen seines Jahrgangs steht aber noch.

Extrem süffiger caroni und untypisch wenig rauchig und eher Sehr würzig. Macht auf jeden Fall extrem viel Spaß!💯👌😍 Würde ich blind nicht als caroni einstufen dafür ist er fast zu mild und nicht so drecki, rauchig wie man es kennt. Aber auf jeden Fall extrem lecker! War übrigens ein bottlekill vor Ort 😃

Wow, well this one knocked my socks off! I'm very impressed, an amazing roasted nose, rubber and spice. On the palate there is more rubber, tar, vanilla, wood with a touch of sweet caramel. So perfectly balanced to me, complex. A long finish.

A Caroni in line with what the '96 vintage has to offer: a nose with intense oak and swirling spices (pepper, chili, cinnamon, vanilla), but also an unsuspected sweetness of caramel, chocolate, coffee and toffee that counterbalances the profile. Dried fruit and toastiness stand out, but the hydrocarbon notes are relatively discreet. The result is a very fragrant and pleasant olfactory profile. On the palate, Caroni's DNA is more demonstrative: rubber and tar combine with spices, oak, mocha coffee, chocolate, caramel, toffee and cookie for an optimal sweetness/potency balance. It's extremely easy-drinking and extremely drinkable. The alcohol is superbly well integrated. The finish is very long and tasty, halfway between menthol and hydrocarbon and caramelized sweetness. There's a high proportion of rather gourmand spices, accompanied by milk chocolate, cappuccino and hazelnut on a lightly smoky, roasted bed. It leaves a very pleasant imprint on the palate. A superb Caroni of great mastery, deep, intense but very gentle in its approach.

9,2:On the nose, roasted wood notes like toffee, roasted nuts, toasted oak, spicy vanilla, allspice, dried and citrus fruits, rubber and tar, menthol, bump into our nosetrils, very balanced. On aeration, the molasses is vegetal, flowery, dark with black tea, prunes and berries arise, various roasted wood tones like chocolate, coffee, umami, sone walnuts. 9,2:On the palate the attack is delicious with roasted wood notes like biscuits, mocha, caramel, spicy with black pepper, smoky, fruits like citrus(orange), yellow, dried, later berries and cherries, industrial notes, dirty, like rubber and menthol, as the molasses is slightly herbaceous...Some tannins arise on oxidation. 9:The finish is long, dry and tannic, as roasted tones pair yellow fruits and industrial, dirty notes like plastic, tar, some menthol, dark molasses with black tea..

Today a Caroni from 1996, which is also more on the spicy side with a pleasant sweetness. The over 60℅ are perfectly integrated and give it plenty of steam. The finish is long and warm. For me personally, it could be a little fruitier. Nevertheless, very tasty, even if it is somewhat atypical Caroni.

This is a lovely Caroni and I'd love to have a bottle on the shelf but that wasn't going to be 😊 Love the tar and rubber mixed with the smoky wood, light fruit and chocolate. The chocolate really comes out after a while in the empty glass. Love it, just love it 😍

Tasted at Catawiki at the 1st German Armagnac Festival. Really very tasty. I'll probably never be able to afford a bottle - but it's still very cool to taste it straight from the bottle and not from the sample bottle. Tasted extremely good. Nice and dirty on the nose and palate, caramel sweetness and also a great freshness with a great mouthfeel. Really very cool. Not at all woody.

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Very good, soft, and balanced Caroni. Starts deliciously fruity, strawberries, and transitions very well into the typical Caroni spices, a bit dry and the typical "dirtyness". But neither of these dominates at all. Just perfect balance and very good alcohol integration. A delight.

This Caroni is rather sweet, smooth, very drinkable, but you find some dirty notes right away. It is complex, full of coffee, walnuts, flowers, bitter and dry. Good one:)

Once again a wonderful representative of the caroni! This is admittedly a rather sweet caroni however the technical aspect is of course unmistakable. It's hard to say what between heaven and hell was going on there to give us these super rums. I know I'll be smelling it in the morning. Wonderful!
