Hampden S.B.S DOK - Virgin Oak Cask DOK 2020
Nail polish, overripe banana and pineapple hit first, with a surprising layer of vanilla and toasty oak from the virgin cask. It's a young Hampden DOK — two years — so the ester bomb runs the show, but several tasters were surprised how round the fresh oak makes it. One member even caught a bourbon-like note on the nose.

Edit: Tasted with FischeJ as a nightcap, good doc at a good price Tasted at Serge's Franconian Tasting Gang goes Tiki. In the end, it has everything you would expect from a DOK. But compared to others that I've had in my glass in the meantime, it falls a little short. Conclusion: A good DOK, but there are far better ones.

Typical high ester representative, almost somewhat restrained due to the dilution. There is an alcoholic tinge, but thanks to the 57% the overall picture is very solid.

8,4:On the nose, esters, nail polish, some solvents, intense, funky, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus, red fruits, vegetal molasses, grassy, roasted wood notes like cream toffee, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses becomes flowery, herbaceous, fresh with tea, new fruits arrive, like lime, papaya, various roasted tones with nuts, leather, pastry, spiciness and some smoke. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is tasty, creamy, slightly funky with esters, solvents, overripe tropical fruits like mango, banana, pineapple, red fruits, roasted/toasted wood notes with cream toffee, caramelized, spicy with vanilla and allspice, as the molasses is at first sweet with honey, later vegetal with briny olive, flowery, herbaceous, some vinegar note arises, when the rum is well oxidized, stronger oak. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, warm, slightly bitter, as grassy, flowery molasses, pairs roasted wood notes, smoky and spicy and various fruits like tropical, yellow, red and funkiness with medicinal notes. Solid DOK. Virgin oak is a good choice here for such a short maturation period. Red fruits, sour pineapple, some caramel, vanilla and pastry and young wood. Overall quite tart, spicy and balanced for such a short maturation period.

Experimental Cask Series - Sample #2: After the first sample, this is a real surprise, as you can taste a clear difference. It turns out that the base product is good. The "fresh" cask was able to make the rum much rounder than the first cask with pre-seasoning; the alcohol is barely noticeable.

A very tasty high ester rum. It had a short storage time, but I really like that kind of thing. The ester naturally predominates here, but there are also tropical fruits on the nose and palate. Really great value for money.

Ich muss sagen bin positiv überrascht von dem kleinen Kameraden, schöne fruchtige Esternoten mit tollen funk. Leichte Marzipan Honig noten. Das Virgin Oak rundet den Dok schön ab, also absolut nicht störend. Bei dem kommt leichte Säure dazu im Abgang. Alkohl ist auch gut eingebunden

Die fehlende Reifezeit merkt man ihm an. Aber nicht ganz so schlimm, wie ich es im Vorfeld erwartet hätte. Kein Highlight, aber ein solider erster Eindruck.

Who would have thought that the Virgin Oak would be my favorite from this series - at the beginning we even left it closed because we thought it would be boring anyway and before it was even tasted for the first time, it ended up in a MaiTai and it was sensational! But a new oak barrel is great when it comes to vanilla and woody notes, which you often don't have on your radar. On the nose, the first association was even bourbon. Then on the palate, in addition to the estery notes, there are also beautiful vanilla and dark wood tones, which then finish off beautifully mild. This one will probably be the first to be empty.

Online tasting with Joshua Singh. Explosion in your mouth. In a positive sense. Best out of the set for me. Full of esters. Very minty flavor, funky taste, long finish. I love it.

Farbe: Kastanie Geruch: Ein Esterbombe, wie nicht anders zu erwarten. Funky ohne Ende. Dabei dominieren weniger fruchtige Ester-Aromen (tropische Früchte), als vielmehr Lösungsmittel, Firniss und Nagellackentferner. Zudem blumig mit Parfüm. Im Hintergrund rieche ich vergleichsweise wenig vom Fass, das ihm ja trotz der kurzen Lagerung einiges an Farbe mitgegeben hat. Der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden. Geschmack: Im Mund weich, fruchtig und mild. Dabei nicht sehr süß. Beim Schlucken dann eine Geschmacksexplosion - kräftig nach tropischen Früchten, Estern, Vanille, Holz und etwas Gewürzen. Abgang: Lang, wärmend und würzig. Die Ester-Aromen klingen lange nach. Wird im Nachgeschmack dann trocken und holzig-bitter. Das gibt einen Abzug bei der Bewertung. 85 Punkte Fazit: Eigentlich bin ich ja ein großer Fan von DOK, HERR & Co., sprich High Ester Rums. Dieser hier ist sehr gut, haut mich aber trotzdem nicht vom Hocker.
