Rather atypical representative from Fiji. Lots of spicy, herbal and planty associations on the nose. Dry and almost medicinal on the palate. Despite the 59.3%, it seems rather thin - I miss the power here. Quite a short finish. Interesting and very atypical.

Bitteres Plastik, etwas Frucht, Alkohol ist schlecht eingebunden. Wer die andere, ältere tolle Fiji Abfüllungen von Rum Artesanal kennt oder auch die früheren TRC Abfüllungen, erkennt hier eine schwachen Abklatsch. Fazit: Eher nicht.

Edit: Thanks Jakob, I had the pleasure of tasting a wide range of the Fiji 2001 bottlings. Although I've had a few in my glass before, the result surprised me again, as my previous favorite ended up in last place. However, it has to be said that I didn't give most of them time to develop due to a time problem. So here is the result of the blind tasting, which differs from the scoring. Tested against RX14277. I think it has the more typical Fiji profile, but I find it too unbalanced and the alcohol not well integrated.

Blind hätte ich hier nie auf Fidji getippt! Zu atypisch sind hier die Aromen. Er ist so mehr auf der pflanzlich würzigen Seite. Wir werden definitiv keine Freunde Am 17.10.25 hatte ich ihn erneut im Glas und konnte ihm weiterhin nichts abgewinnen. Es bleibt einer der schwächeren Fidjis

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting - big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprise. For me, the two Artesanal rums, neither of which I drank to the end, brought up the rear. An unpleasant juniper off-note was particularly disturbing (very pronounced in the rx15398, slightly better but still disturbing in the rx7779). Then, for me, the Rum Cask rx479 brought up the rear (i.e. very good / with the right markers), but not as great as the others. Surprisingly, the Isla del Ron, which has had a small reference status in my heart ever since I tried it, ended up in next place for me. But it was overtaken in the blind test by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational. cave Guildive (rx1717). For me, the Cave Guildive is the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I only rated the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) higher ... this one is clearly woodier but also ultra-tasty. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably also stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Verdict: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody. the Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the two that remain far below the level of the other two.

12.07.2026 Retasting and I still like it 😊 --------- #5080 Saturday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Medium to dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, light glue, fruits, light pineapple, light herbs, spice. Palate Wood, light roasted, faint smoke, dried fruit, light glue, oily, herbs, naturally sweet, light bitter, medium dry. Finish Medium to long, oily, wood, faint smoke, fruits, medium spicy, light dry, light medicinal. Empty glass Herbs, light citrus, faint smoke, fruits, light glue.

2. Fiji-Rum heute Abend, welche mit dem ersten, Honeybatcher, (leider) gar nichts zu tun hat. Sehr kräutrig und würzig von Anfang bis Ende. Interessant finde ich die Noten von Fenchel in Nase und Gaumen. Hierzu kommt eine medizinische Note die ich nicht näher definieren kann. Alkohol gut eingebunden, aber nicht mein Lieblingstyp von Rum Retasting: Etwas besser als zuerst bewertet; die Ester-Früchte-Kräuter-Mischung ist wirklich gut; Alkohol immer noch spürbar. +2

No idea why the thing smells and tastes so like grilled fennel, plus a very slight honey sweetness and incense and green apple note, as well as many herbs and slightly bitter. Not quite mine but not bad...Very atypical Fiji which unfortunately does not meet my taste and I can not really classify.

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001 and first RumX community meeting in Acht. A nose dominated by pine resin, but also vegetal notes (dry herbs), toasted, orange peel, menthol, medicinal notes, and candy-like hints. You find the candy flavors on the palate with a sweet/pastry side. Vegetal/pine resin and cedar wood. A touch of salty apples, baked apples. The finish is long, with vegetal notes, pine resin, and menthol. Very nice empty glass, fruity and woody. This rum has some surprising aromas but personally I like it because everything stays lively and tasty.

On the nose, the herbal juniper note that is so often found in Artesanal accompanies the classic Fiji profile. On the palate, there is a little more room for the archetypal aromas, even if the herbal tonality remains undeniably present; also worth mentioning is the caramel note in the finish, which is almost completely absent from the other 2001 Fijis I know. A release that on the one hand has to split, but on the other hand also runs the risk of being somewhat unduly penalized because it only partially meets the average expectations of Fiji 2001. In my opinion, it is an exciting addition to the field, which, although not in the immediate top class, is still of a great quality.

Ja ne dieser Rum wird nicht mein Lieblingsrum. Viele Kräuter sind hier erkennbar, ist jedenfalls sehr medizinisch mit ner Menge Klebstoff in der Nase. Am Gaumen dann noch etwas Fenchel und Pfeffer. Ist sehr trocken der Rum.

In der Nase eher in die Richtung eines 09er Jahrgangs. Im Mund nicht leid, tatsächlich recht kräutrig aber ich habe auch Dörrobst. Relativ trocken. Der Abgang finde ich recht dreckig und irgendwie spannend. Der Jahrgang weckt natürlich Erwartungen, welche der Rum nicht zu bedienen weiss. Ich finde ihn aber dennoch ansprechend und trinkbar.

This second Rum Artesanal is the antithesis of the previous bottling. The nose is vegetal, very herbaceous with a touch of freshness, but also lots of spice (pepper, juniper), roasted notes and a hint of varnish and glue. The profile is rather dry and lively, far removed from the usual standards of the vintage. The attack on the palate is extremely stiff. The rum hits the palate hard, with notes of spice (juniper, chili, pepper), smoke, herbs, tea and thyme, and unfortunately, alcohol. The profile is reminiscent of a Guyana rum distilled in the Versailles alembic, but more brutal, and requires a lot of aeration to become "calmer". Unfortunately, the alcohol is not well integrated. The finish is short, leaving a bitter taste both gustatory and emotional. There's spice again, a slightly smoky, herbal and medicinal aftertaste, but no depth or subtlety. It's hard to make up one's mind about such a rum, which is totally out of step with other bottlings from the same vintage.

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Definitely an outliner from the pack. This bottling again shows intense herbal notes which have seamingly appeared in some of the more recent RA bottlings. At the start this is a bit overwhelming to the base profile. With some time to breath this addition blends in more nicely and makes this more of a standout than an outlier in a negative sense. All in all this is interesting enough to make it to the middle of the tasted range - mind you the profile is somewhat skewed towards herbal notes. Cheers to Jabok!

After the new RA 2001 Fiji was so torn, I wanted to know more, and let him compete against the RA Fiji 2001 from 2021 (RX 7779) and my Fiji 2001 reference, the IdR (RX 9382). After the first impression of root vegetables (celery?) has faded somewhat on the new RA, notes towards toffee also come through, though they are joined by a somewhat strange note reminiscent of linoleum flooring (hospital hallway). What is most noticeable about the new RA compared to the other two 2001s though, it has zero funky notes. But this balance would be important to compensate for the root vegetable/linoleum. The IdR is clearly the most funky, and plays off that wonderfully. It's also in a completely different league again from the old RA. Even if the new RA is not a completely atypical Fiji, it can not really inspire me.

Meine Erwartungen waren sehr hoch, besonders nach dem ersten überragenden Batch von RA. Nase: Kräuter, Fenchel, Honig medizinisch, Fruchtnoten kommen nur schwach durch. Unterschied zu anderen 2001 Abfüllungen klar vorhanden und teilweise neu aber für mich ist die Fiji DNA klar erkennbar. Gaumen: Metallisch, trocken zugleich medizinisch, wenig Frucht, Alkohol nicht optimal eingebunden, wirkt trotz der knapp 60% etwas dünn. Der Geschmack kommt nicht gut rüber und hat klare Noten die nicht wirklich angenehm rüberkommen bzw. unruhig wirken. Ja, es ist ein Fiji 2001, man kann erahnen, dass was von der unverkennbaren DNA hier drin steckt. Leider wirkt er unrund und hat Anklänge und Noten die einfach nicht passen. Kann die bestehenden Kritiken durchaus nachvollziehen - sage aber auch, dass das kein Totalausfall ist. Vielleicht wird der ja mit der Zeit ein bisschen besser 😅 hoffentlich

8,2:On the nose, medicinal, plastic, herbaceous molasses, banana, roasted wood and some juniper, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, we notice glue, spicy wood and perhaps fennel. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is sweet and salty with baked apple, smoky roasted wood with confectionery, caramel, nuts, peppery, some vanilla is there, juniper and medicinal touch, as the fruits are dried, bananas, the molasses herbaceous. 8,1:The finish is dry and tannic, the wood is roasted, spicy with anise, pepper, smoky, oak is quite strong.The molasses is vegetal, herbaceous, some rubber is obvious, as the rum is less fruity.

What was that. A herbal Fiji? I am completely surprised. Unfortunately negative. The profile is rather Fiji untypical. As with the BMMG, WP or even the Venezuela 2005 clear herbal notes. I have the feeling that RA is looking for the profile, as it piles up in the bottlings. Too bad. Overall, the funk is missing. Am glad to bunker the first bottling sufficiently.

In der Nase erstmal Fiji, nicht unähnlich dem S.B.S 2004... aber dann, Majoran?! Bisschen Zitronengras und irgend eine helle Kräuternote die ich nicht ganz zuordnen kann. Erinnert mich an irgendetwas, aber ich weiß nicht genau was. Im Mund dann ähnliches Spiel. Fiji mit einem Schuss Kräuterlikör – kein Jägermeister, irgendwas abgefahrenes Holländisches. Jenever vielleicht?! Abgang mittellang bis lang. Tja, schade. Die Vorfreude war groß, der Preis ist fair, aber dieser komischen Note kann ich nichts abgewinnen. Handwerklich solide, aber es bleibt beim Sample.

Tasted blind. Very atypical nose. What stands out most is the herbal and medicinal side. On the palate, I first thought of a Foursquare with spicy astringency, then boistoast and more herbs. Nice sweet burnt wood finish. I also found the alcohol a little present on the palate.

Schon an der Nase unterscheidet sich dieser Rum leicht von anderen Fiji, hat etwas mehr Kräuter zu bieten. Das setzt sich am Gaumen so fort. Die üblichen Fiji Marker sind vorhanden, aber ergänzt durch eine etwas kräutrige Note, die nicht ganz zu den anderen Aromen passt. Kein schlechter Rum, aber auch kein Highlight.

Initial smell of caramel, creme brulee. Maybe some medicinal vibe. It's a little more interesting than the Plantation Fiji I tried the other day. Pours golden. Die Fidschi Abfüllung von Rum Artesanal fällt im Vergleich zu anderen Abfüllungen des starken 2001er Jahrgangs schon etwas ab. Weniger fruchtig. Deutlich mehr Kräuter und medinische Noten. Die Abfüllung ist aber nicht schlecht, aber einfach anders als das was ich vom 2001er Fidschi erwarte. Das typische wird von den Kräuternoten etwas überdeckt.

Klar, kein typischer Fiji, aber wenn man ihn für sich alleine betrachtet finde ich ihn sogar recht toll. Die durchschnittliche Bewertung hat er nicht verdient. Schon allein diese intensive Farbe begeistert mich, da stecken 22Jahre tropische Reifung drin. Die Nase nimmt zuerst die Kräuter wahr, Schwarztee und Fenchel, doch dazu kommt die Süße von Sahnetoffee und leichte Würze,was die Sache abrundet. Gib ihm Zeit zum atmen.;-) Geschmacklich ist er auf der kräutrigen/würzigen Seite, mit einem guten Schuss Holz und Röstaromen,recht trocken. Ich glaube das ist wieder so ein Situationsrum :-D , beim ersten Verkosten konnte ich die Kritiken gar nicht verstehen und war voll begeistert, heute schon ein wenig eher, trotzdem ist das ein richtig guter Rum. Gerade im super Angebot,dank Eurer Kritiken;-), ich glaub ich hol mir noch zwei Flaschen. :-)

Al naso è ricco e vivace con note legnose, di cuoio e leggera tostatura, frutta secca dolce, erbe, agrumi e spezie con un pizzico di tabacco. Complesso e interessante, con qualcosa di familiare. Al palato le note speziate (pepe) e fiorite (violetta) vanno in primo piano seguite da quelle dolci e morbide in sottofondo di frutta secca, dando un corpo quasi cerato. Ha anche delle note quasi medicinali che mi ricordano alcuni prodotti che hanno come base aromatica l'albero del tè, e altre di legno,cuoio molto leggero, frutti tropicali, finocchio e tabacco/agrumi sul finale. L'abv è più che perfettamente integrato, una bevuta piacevole e interessante. Nel bicchiere vuoto arrostito e frutta candita. Grazie a Rumtata per il sample

Au nez du l ananas, de la banane verte et un côté très herbacé un légèrement médicinal. En bouche les herbes et le côté médicinal dominent, viennent ensuite les fruits tropicaux et les épices classiques du fidji. Finale moyenne. Un rhum sympa.

Unglaublich, aber nicht im positiven Sinn…. Persönlich finde ich das Ding ungenießbar und würde sowas niemals Abfüllen! So eine krasse Note von Genever, das mir fast schlecht wurde…und die Fiji DNA komplett in den Hintergrund rücken lässt. Tiefpunkt der RA Abfüllungen für mich😢
