Bristol Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) Port Morant Demerara Rum 1990
Most people land around "very good, not quite great." The nose wins everyone over — leather, cocoa, tawny port, dried fruit, old varnished wood — but the 46% reduction thins things out, so several tasters found the palate a touch watery and short. Cherry, clove, herbs and dark spice run through it. A few felt the Oloroso sherry buries the classic Port Mourant character.

Gorgeous nose, slightly thin sherried palate Beautiful leather-and-port nose almost everyone loves, but the reduction leaves the palate a bit thin and short. Most wish it were bottled stronger than 46%.

Beautiful dry woodiness. Great leather, cocoa nose. Some smoke and dried fruit on the palate. Gone very quickly on the finish due to the low %%. For less money this would be a great sipper. On the other hand, it will soon be a rum from other times, when this was the absolute top class.

Time for a sample! Thanks to Kasper! On the nose, fruit that reminds me of a tawny port followed by wood and tobacco notes. In the mouth, a slight sweetness at first, which is replaced by bitter wood notes. Clove, pepper, herbs, somewhat medicinal. At the end, the woody notes remain. It's a shame that so little remains, probably because of the comparatively low alcohol content Would certainly be a nice sipper, but at this price, I can think of too many alternatives.

A rum tasted in a restaurant, the bottle well started. A superb nose, like a clubhouse with old varnished wood, a light smokiness coming from the fireplace, dried fruits on the counter. Big disappointment on the palate, which doesn't live up to its olfactory promises. Diluted but with a beautiful bitterness, a surprising vegetal side. The finish is short but elegant. The empty glass reveals the lost aromas with a lovely fruity woodiness.

I have always heard very positive opinions from friends about these Bristol bottlings! I must say that it is a really pleasant rum and the low degree helps bring out its fruitier flavors! The oloroso cask though for me is too predominant and turns off the typical PM flavors!

Hard to say of the price matches the quality. I think that it lacks a bit maybe because of the relative low ABV. A fruity rum with a ice and spicy and oily palate. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is really nice and I can pick up chocolate and light caramel.

Has kept a certain power despite the reduction. Remains quite marked despite the dilution. Pleasant tasting.

Nice nose but too reduced in the mouth, a little medicinal and grass but sadly a bit watery from the reduction.

Very dry, burnt, herbal, bitter and woody. Dark red fruits and slightly salty Solid!

Nose: totally round. Deep, pleasant spice, leathery sweet. Blackberry, cherry and raisin. Reminiscent of a brandy and port. Palate: again that full spicy-woody-dark fruity aroma. There's cherry and blackberry and anise again. This time also something like creme brulet. And a light herbal note.Finish: herbs, tea, spice, sweet, aniseSo great, bottled at more than 46% it would be a blast!

Nose: Many aromas, buttery and vanilla at the beginning. In the background fermented fruit and coffee, also wood as well as tobacco. Palate: Despite the only 46% partly sharp. Medicinal and herbal as well as bitter. In addition, an intense meaty note that surprises. The fruity notes are clearly confined to cherries. Finish: salty and intense cocoaConsummation: the long time in the cherry wood barrels leaves clear traces in the taste. Both the cherry and cocoa notes are distinct. In sum, however, not really round.

Caveating this score by the fact that the bottle had been open for some time when a friend shared this so it came across a bit flatter than I understand it would’ve been at first crack. Even then, still pretty good given they balanced the sherry well on this one, which is hard to do!
