Typical T.D.L with lots of mint, menthol and herbal notes. Compared to many 2003 vintages, I find more (toasted) fruit and wood in this one. Very intense and astringent on the palate, this rum really gets going from the very first second! The alcohol is very well integrated and the finish is eternally long! A bottling that has quite rightly found its fans over time. An outstanding rum!

Oh Boy, this is a nice one. Much power on the palate providing a evolving experience playing with lots of mint, fruits, spices and wood. On the edge of being to alcoholic and/or woody at some point of the journey but beautifully coming back with dried fruits and mint in the next moment. Very reminiscent of tropical aged MM imo.

first impression: the has real power 💪 on the nose fruity (dried fruit) and dirty at the same time, and also a little direction baking mix and chewing tobacco. This continues on the palate, except that charred barrel is added. The alcohol is already quite sharp and present, but not yet to the point of being unpleasant. Again, a real 2001 TDL highlight!

Wonderful nose .... Wonderful fresh minty , dark dried fruits slightly dirty (tar, tobacco,leather ) Alcohol relatively well/medium integrated in the nose. On the palate you can feel the alcohol more clearly (doesn't bother me though) .Full power mint , spices .... Leather ,tobacco, wood and some fruit (plum, cassis,dark berries) .The makes real alarm in the mouth Long Mentholiger finish. Great bottling 👍Thanks mto75 for the sampl.

A beautiful nose marked by the freshness of menthol with yellow fruit, wood, roast, tar and tobacco. And all these aromas harmonize well. The palate, too, benefits from the freshness of the menthol, with the fruit very much in evidence behind, along with a hint of bitter herbs and tar. The finish is long, balanced and complex. A very fine rum! It doesn't really have the complexity of Caroni aromas, apart from a slight tar, but all the same I can't help thinking of a Caroni, but on the lighter side (LTR). A T.D.L. that starts on the nose with a good dose of menthol, supported by fruit to bring freshness. Empyreumatic notes of roast, tobacco and toasted oak follow, reminiscent of a Caroni. It takes a while for the aromas to take shape on the nose, but it's worth the wait.The attack on the palate is lively, on the dirtiness typical of a Caroni but with medicinal notes and extra bitterness. Herbs, tobacco, licorice, aniseed and leather reinforce this impression. Behind the menthol and eucalyptus lurk notes of dried fruit and red berries, timidly showing the tip of their nose. The alcohol is well integrated, and the finish is long, sticky and grimy. Dark chocolate, cocoa, leather, aniseed and licorice provide the bitterness, while spice and wood give the rum a dry, lively edge. Then fruit and menthol add their share of freshness, before petroleum and gasoline notes dirty the profile. An intriguing rum that won't leave you indifferent.

Of the dirty TDLs, 2001 is the most prominent vintage. The 2001s are the dirtiest, 2002 is fresher and 2003 is yellow fruitier. In crosstasting, I tried the RA, TCRL, Nobilis, Plantation Antipodes and the new Rasta Morris. The rums are incredibly similar - esp. the Nobilis and RM are barely distinguishable. The RA stands out because of the dilution, the Plantation is clearly marked by the cognac barrel - it moves it closer to the 2003s - and the TCRL is the freshest, with an unusual herbal note. The TCRL is somewhat reminiscent of the 2002s.The RM is the dirtiest of my session with the Nobilis. In addition to the typical menthol and mint notes, there is tar, wood, toasty caramel and tobacco. The RM is a touch more elegant than the Nobilis, bit finer the caramel a bit sweeter. The yellow fruits are present as with the Nobilis, but in the background. If I had to distinguish the Nobilis from the RM, I would point to the smell of damp cellar (musty, cardboard) in the Nobilis versus a wood paneled gentleman's room. A difference that is probably mostly imaginary. Both are even more wood driven than the other two. Perhaps these rums should not be aged much. In the mouth the RM is a shade more interesting compared to the Nobilis it is super heavy in menthol and brings the tart citrus notes that I also find in the RA and TCRL. just the grapefruit that joins the TDL Falernum in the finish is just classy. For me on the same level as the Nobilis - maybe half a point better. Very, very good.

Hammer! The rum seems so wonderfully mature, the mint holds itself nobly as gray eminence in the background. This could become my new benchmark for TDLs from the beginning of the 21st century. For that, though, I'll have to taste it against other candidates first. So far, the front-runner is the RX944. If this one is deprived, I'll really have to reconsider its fabulous 94 points ... But that's the way it is: Panta Rhei. Update 2023-09-06: I think today I can give the rum its deserved 93 points. Today's impression: Wonderfully bitter at the back, like nice long drawn black tea. In addition, a full load of menthol and cannabis (!), but only in the back of the palate, in front the alcohol spreads nice and wide, but not disturbing. Fantastic!

09.02.2024 Nordlichter treffen. Retasting and I still love it so I'll stick to my initial score. --------------------- #4124 This is a very good TDL and if you bought it at release the price tag is really good. Medium intense with nice roasted wood and fruits. There is a very nice floral and minty note that I like a lot. Dry and warm on the palate with a long finish. Draws beautiful curtains in the glass and the empty glass is very nice and has some chocolate and a light smoky note.

Top nose. Powerful overall, like most TDLs from the beginning of the millennium. This one is more on the spicy, earthy side. In addition to the expected mint and perfume notes, there are also roast and shampoo associations. Needs time to breathe. Too spicy, medicinal on the finish. Somehow mushroomy and furry.

Yet another TDL that’s right up my alley. Dried fruit, tobacco, mint, wood, a little dirt and a touch of caramel. A very good rum even though the mint is a touch too present. I bought a bottle after having a glass from my sample.

After I was completely thrilled by this rum at the Northern Lights meeting, I'll now try it again in peace, thanks Lukas! First a full load of glue on the nose. After a while, roasted mint and a nice subtle fruity note mixed with old leather. With the first sip, the alcohol still comes through strongly, but the nice menthol note with a little cedar wood is already apparent. There is also a pleasant, slightly bitter acidity that is reminiscent of grapefruit, only drier. The finish is long and mint coats the whole mouth.

Quite a "board" with archetypal structure for a 2001 TDL with Caroni impact: menthol full, even slight hints of eucalyptus, minimal sweetness, lots of wood and spices - very intense, almost brute, and definitely not suitable for people who can not do anything with menthol. Very appealing to me, this rum definitely needs to be cross-compared to other TDLs from the early 2000s. Very good release!

This is how it should be..., on the nose the full load of mint/menthol, paired with dried fruit and something dirty. Delightful, it can go on like this...and I am not disappointed, the palate and finish continue in the same flavor play and intensity. This TDL would have deserved an excellent if the alcohol was a little better integrated. But that is already the only downer! Class bottling, of these 2001s gladly more

Nose: a little closed at first. Then, all of a sudden, nuoc-mâm sauce, quite sweet and salty. We soon arrive at the famous baume du tigre, very minty, a sensation of freshness perfumes the room. Lightly caramelized brown sugar. Exotic fruits appear on flambéed mango and fresh starfruit. Some hydrocarbons appear on motor oils. A hint of very briny green olive. A beautiful combination of flavors. Mouth: an explosion of tangy flavors, a veritable menthol bomb. It's like vaporub vicks on the tongue. The alcohol is still very much present. The 63.8 bourrins make themselves felt. It's oily and greasy. It sticks to the mouth. Roasted notes on an austere woodiness. A bitter orange comes through. Sweetness is present on warm, caramelized molasses. I perceive wild berries, crushed and left to air for a while. The finish is a little astringent, warm and smoky. A mixture of slightly damp old wood, golden caramel in the pan and strong spices on the cooking pepper. A complex, evolving and bewitching selection.

Am newbie to TDL's minty vintages and today tasted the current RDL 2002 against this Rasta Morris 2001. For me, the RDL is more "genuinely" minty ... that is, mainly after Moroccan mint. The Rasta Morris, however, first mentholig and "monymuskig" before the mint comes. This I mean completely value-free ... like both.

Initially, there was far too much menthol for my taste and not at all my cup of tea, but this rum managed to inspire me more and more. After a little breathing in the air or after a little time in the bottle, most of the menthol evaporates and the hidden aromas emerge. The rum is still very strong, still menthol and dirty aromas, plus a little bitterness and very delicate yellow fruits, which can be found more prominently in the 2002 and 2003 bottlings. In direct comparison with the very similar Nobilis No. 27 (Caksus), I like the Rasta Morris a little more, but not enough to make a difference in the rating. The Nobilis is slightly cardboardy where I have more wood in the Rasta Morris and I like that a little better. But in the end, both are very strong bottlings that come very close with air and a little water. In the meantime, I regret having given away my second bottle of Rasta Morris, even though I was able to make a RumX member happy with it.

Compared to 2003 single cask nation which i just had, this one is less delicate, main notes are similar, however on palate the menthol overpowers the floral notes which were more prominent there, fresh mint plays a second fiddle. Dried fruit and smoke also here, in addition i find more vanilla and caramel which i didn't pick up as much in the other one. On the other hand i don't get any obivous coffee notes. In direct comparison with the SdS RumX release, the Rasta Morris has a good portion of glue and varnish in addition to fruity notes. On the palate - like the SdS - it's just as good with mint, spices, lots of fruit, slightly medicinal, dirty notes and a little petrol. For me, on a par with the SdS.

Phew, yes, this one is intense, but I think the next three will be too :) First impression: really strong mint on the nose and palate. Otherwise, definitely dirty, with wood and menthol also noticeable.

Nase: wow ist der intensiv! Jede Menge rote Früchte, rote Johannisbeeren, Nelke, weniger holzlastig als vermutet. Gaumen: hier ist der Alkohol zu spüren und nicht zu knapp! Wirkt sehr frisch mit der Minze und Menthol, rote Früchte sind auch da aber nicht mehr im Forderung, Fasseinfluss jetzt deutlich mit Tanninen und Eiche, wirkt trocken. Nachklang: viel Fass und Eiche, leicht bitter und trocken

Complex Trinidad with a clear T.D.L signature. On the nose, dark fruit, herbs, leather, and immediately a pronounced menthol note that gives the profile freshness and excitement. Dense and complex on the palate with spices, dry wood, a hint of bitter orange and again a strong menthol note that runs through and which I particularly like. Everything seems ripe and concentrated without becoming heavy or tired. An expressive rum full of character.

In my opinion, everything is just right with this T.D.L. The rum is bursting with intensity. It's not just the bourbon cask that has a real impact and provides strong oak with notes of polish and glue, there's also mint and lovely light fruits such as peach, lychee and passion fruit en masse. In the background there is a small, dirty hint of tar...great!

A great piece. In the nose, first cherry pops! then mint! Then menthol, mint and spice in the mouth. Simply quite beautiful. Well-integrated alcohol in the finish, fresh wood and clove with a good bitter note. Can understand the FOMO and unfortunately didn't get hold of another bottle.

Powerful menthol notes instantly after pouring the sample. After 20-odd minutes a different profile started emerging. Wafts of dried fruits and oily orange skin. Sweet maple with a hint of cinnamon. Rounded off by lightly toasted wood pellets and floral tea. On the palate dried fruits, neroli and charred barrel. There’s some blackened caramel bitter sweetness. Again menthol, but this time evolving into petroleum. Gas station notes, without being overpowering or overly dirty. And eventually more floral tea accompanied by a spearmint eucalyptus blend. The finish is very long as I could taste minty petrol for atleast an hour. Price/quality is high at release price.

I just love the mint. I like it really well. Since one almost regrets to share 😇😋. Look forward to the direct comparison with the Nobilis. From memory, the RM could be a little rougher. Overall, the rum has already been described very well here. Very very good TDL. Will need more of it.

Nose: Full pipe furniture polish, mint, mango, wood, gooseberry, kiwi, cassis, leather, overripe heavy and lush, juicy strawberries, diesel, caramel toasty, raisins stewed in honey, fresh hay, great nose! Palate: the powerful nose continues uncompromisingly and perfectly: caramelized peaches, mirabelles with quite a bit of acacia honey, Elijah Craig or Heaven Hill bourbon, banana and coconut sugar/maroon like from Jack Daniels or Dickel, very interesting. Or from the intense, Texas Garrison Brothers after all? Anyway, great bourbon influence, just right! Thin leather and BBQ sauce on oak table, tar, ash, soy sauce, burnt strawberries, hemp, intense and full in your face, extremely long finish and just really, really good - fully loaded with extremely complex aromatics and very long and forever astringent finish, on point! Fireworks! Insanity! Top class! What a dram! Even after many minutes and a few sips of water, I still taste mint, hay, honey, sugar cane, grass, gooseberry and leather. Clearly ahead of the Plantation 2001 Trinidad Antipodes and due to the better nose and also the more complex palate (great cask selection!) clearly ahead of the also very good Rom de Luxe 2002. Overall today: Rasta Morris>Rom de Luxe minimal >Plantation 2001 virtually on par with <> Cadenheads Green Label Trinidad 18 yo. which would probably have been better than the Plantation without dilution > Tamosi TDL 2000 which is completely losing out here, no chance. 2001 2003 similar mint and diesel and polish and oak best2000 2002 similar less mint hardly any diesel less polish and less oak. Style Spanish more typical but very nice and clearly more powerful than what is otherwise known from this style.

Wow, the aroma is just a load of kerosene and mint. After a while it calms down a bit, the mint subsides a bit and in a blind tasting I would definitely guess Caroni. Technically, kerosene, leather, a little mint. After a few more minutes, the technicality subsides and the smoothness and mint become more apparent, so you have to drink it within 15 minutes to get the Caroni effect. I need more sips but this is really on the top of my list. Update 01/2024: after couple of month its even better then before. +3points. Really rum of the year 2023 for me.

So I'm doing this TDL side by side tasting with myself. Scored this bottle. Put it in a share. Saved some from myself. This is the oldest TDL I'm trying today. Also the one with the highest rating. Psyched! Nose: instantly super fruity: apple(juice), cherry, berry, cranberry. Sweet and sour. Lots of things happening. Glue/solvents. Candy. Like the Haribo cherry-coke sweets. Taste: yellow and red fruits galore. Yes the berries again. Strong too. The alcohol is present. Hint of tar (Caroni yay!). Petrol. A bit tropical. Guave. Flowers. Lavender. A tad soapy. All big flavours now. Very dry. Adding a drop of water. It improves. The alcohol is still present - catalysing all the flavours. Not an easy sipper this. Verdict: obviously a very big rum. Also very dry and astrigent in the mouth and finish. The alcohol is present all the way. Some reviews mention too much wood, that might be but it's not a normal woodiness. Its more of an astringent feeling. I feel this would shine more below 60%. Maybe even on a classic 55%. My advice is to bring it down a bit. Still very good.

For me, the best rum I had so far 2023 in the glass !The Rasta Morris is so intense that you do not even perceive the 2002 and 03 T.D.L in comparison!Here meet dirty workshop notes and solvent on tobacco and bright fruits - this rum is aromatic BAMM! directly in the face and sounds slowly with notes of vanilla, orange and some mint and Tabk aus.macht really curious about more 2001s.

Oula, big pieces, only one thing, open your bottle, ask for oxy, after that leaves more on the fruit (as the tdl planta2001) and this mixture of menthol / lightweed, dirt, wowowoow, this juice is royal, what is it good, one of the best tdl for sure, it.hold its place on the podium of the Best TDL, the final is endless, magnificent, its mutation to the oxy it.render it better than its brother the nobilis?and mm that the 2001 lmdw?

Another beautifully minty t.d.l.ko. Very fresh in aroma with a bit of technique. The taste is dominated by sweet mint, there is a noticeable higher abv, but this is not a bad thing. The finish is long, minty and very pleasant. This is a good one!

Good TDL. I understand what the community means by dirty TDL. But I'm not a big fan of that aspect... Some people make the connection with Caroni, but I find it very different.
