Isle of Wight HMS Victory

The surprise here is pine: several tasters get resinous conifer and even juniper, almost like a young agricole crashing into a dark navy blend. Underneath sits the classic stuff — malty, chocolate-mokka depth, dried fruit, prunes and blackberry from Guyana and Trinidad. One member called it a "Chemiecocktail," and that odd herbal-metallic edge does split people. High strength, and it fades fast at the end.

I'm excited about this navy rum because it's comparatively very affordable and also has a cool history that places it close to the historical navy blends. According to the label, it contains components from Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica. In the glass, the rum shimmers a deep mahogany color. The first surprise on the nose: pine! (T.D.L sends its regards?) And lots of dried and caramelized fruit, blackberry, a little barrel and spice. There's another smell behind the Swiss stone pine that I can't place. A bit like a good '97 or '95 Clarendon perhaps. Quite peppery and tingling on the palate. Aromatically very similar to the impression of the nose plus a slight dirty note. Finish: the rum unfortunately fades quite quickly, only the herbs/pine remain present for a long time. The rum is very good and very attractive for the price. The Guyana and T.D.L parts are quite easy to recognize, but I have a hard time with Jamaica. Addition: there is an alcoholic note on the palate, like that of young rum. This doesn't surprise me, as there is certainly little/no long aged rum in the blend for the price asked.

Thanks to RumTaTa for the cool split. You can't complain about the price. It's more of an underdog, but unfortunately this profile doesn't quite grab me. As Serge has already mentioned, he tastes juniper here. I do too, and unfortunately I don't like that at all. Of course, that ruins a better rating.

Very interesting Navy Rum. In the nose immediately have very strong notes of citrus , pine and herbs . Some caramelized Demerara sugar. The palate is then a little slower but again citrus and pine and juniper berries. The barrel also comes through well, bringing chocolate and bitter notes ....

Very great representative of navy rum; I like it very much! Dark, malty on the nose, with light fruit, especially sour cherry, but also herbs and tea notes. Very mild sweetness in the mouth, followed by tea and herbs. Wood and bitter notes then take over in the finish. Top PLV!

8,4:On the nose, intense, metallic, charred wood notes with leather or rubber, roasted nuts, caramelized, cola, slightly resinous, perhaps there is juniper, malt, the molasses is herbaceous, fruits with prunes, black berry, citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is dark with black tea, soy sauce, licorice, dried apricots and cherries are out, sandal wood, some maggi, perhaps umami. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is thick with dark, herbaceous molasses, bitter, vegetal with black tea, soy sauce, later cigar, some licorice, fruity with lemon peel, dried apricots, prunes, raisins, berries and cherries, perhaps mirabelle plum and the wood brings charred notes like caramelized Demerara sugar, dark chocolate, pecans, leather, is resinous, perhaps juniper is there, smoky, peppery, salty, metallic patina is present, hints od dirt. 8,1:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, less balanced, the notes from palate linger on, we also notice pencil shavings, passion fruit, cocoa and baking spices.

Uuii... in the nose, sweet Maggi immediately flows in, I also perceive some resinous, chemical aromas... very unusual. On the palate, initially herbal sweetness and Maggi again, something dirty, passion fruit and somehow geranium aromas are also recognizable. The whole thing seems like a chemical cocktail. The finish is medium long, herbal with passion fruit! A truly exceptional rum... but I don't need a bottle of it
