Shinozaki Distillery Amagi Honkaku Reserve Special Selection (Park Avenue) 2012
Rum drinkers who chase the unusual will get the most out of this Japanese oddity. Members keep landing on the same comparisons: cask-strength cognac or armagnac, with hints of sake, shochu and soju woven through wood, dark chocolate and a light glue note. It's dark, salty and concentrated, with a thick mouthfeel one taster called "demerara on steroids." Hard to find, but genuinely different.

How does Shinozaki Distillery Amagi Honkaku Reserve Special Selection (Park Avenue) 2012 taste?
Aggregated from 20 community reviews.
Dark, salty Japanese rum with cognac edge Widely liked as a one-of-a-kind sipper — wood, roasted notes, brine and a cognac/sake character. A few found the palate less complex than the nose, and one finish ran short.

Very unique aroma and flavor profile. I really like it!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Exciting stuff! Nose reminiscent of a mixture of cognac and foursquare rum. Taste could be for me an absolutely horny cask strength cognac or even Armagnac, barely ticks, very harmonious, strong and tasty! Please more of it Japan!🙌🏼🇯🇵😁🤤 Has at the 2nd tasting something of shochu or sake.

Exciting! Intense, fruity nose. Slightly salty, wild, intense. Embedded in soju notes and a hint of fruity cognac. Finish unfortunately a little short, but still very good!

An interesting new type of rum with facets of sake and cognac
Review by Johannes
The nose is very impressive with tropical notes. Palate can't quite keep up with the nose, but nice complexity with Armagnac, sake.
Review by Henry Davies
Was excited to try this one and did not disappoint. Super inviting nose, sweet with candied fruit, oak, chocolate. Strong but balanced mouth, some brine and chocolate with a hint of raisin and caramel. I like it a lot. The finish is long and lingering with many layers. Great complexity, nearly a 8.5 for me, glad I have a bottle. It’s not what I was expecting and by far one of the more interesting rum’s I have enjoyed in recent months
Review by JMac
Interesting mix. It’s good rum with the hint of sake and an aftertaste of the cognac. Quality unique sipper.
