Overall not a typical Foursquare in my opinion with its funkiness and medicinal tastes. The nose is fruity and medicinal with notes of wood, vanilla and apricot. At the palate it’s funky, medicinal, fruity and spicy with notes of rubber, vanilla and salt.

Die Nase ist klassisch für einen Foursquare. Kokosnuss, Mandarine und Aprikose, sowie eine Honigsüße. Der Gaumen ist allerdings zu leicht und die Aromen kommen nicht deutlich zur Geltung, der Abgang ist kurz und unspektakulär! Am besten gefällt mir die Nase! Ein sehr guter Einstiegsrum für Foursquare

Love the online tasting with Angus and the other RumX participants. This is a very easy drinkable Barbados rum. Very smooth, almost silky on the palate with some fruit and spices. The empty glass is really nice and reveals some chocolate and raisin. Love the funny label they chose 😊

Un rhum au profil atypique. Le nez est étonnamment médicinal, notamment pour un Foursquare. Puis les touches pâtissières et sucrées reprennent le pas, suivies des fruits (noix de coco, abricot, fruits secs), les épices douces, le chocolat et les fruits à coque (noix, noisette). Le nez est légèrement timide mais change du profil classique de la distillerie. En bouche, l’attaque est assez fade et déséquilibrée. L’amertume et la dilution ne permettent pas aux saveurs de s’exprimer. Si la note médicinale est toujours là, il y a également une touche alcoolique qui dérange un peu au palais. Les fruits, le chocolat et la pointe de salinité sauvent la mise sur cet embouteillage. La finale est courte, légèrement âpre et astringente et manque de cachet et de longévité. Le cacao, le café, les épices, le boisé et les notes rôties se font plus dominants, avec toujours une forme médicinale et quelques fruits éparses. Un profil qui sortait du lot mais dont le potentiel s’est ternis au long de la dégustation hélas.

Un rhum goûté online avec Angus MacRaild. Une couleur assez claire. Un nez très fruité et pâtissier, plutôt doux. Avec un peu de bois vernis. En bouche l’attaque est sur la relative douceur et l’équilibre des saveurs. Un rhum avec une grande buvabilité. La finale est sur les épices et sur le bois noble. Le verre vide a des côtés très pâtissiers. Une très belle expérience.

Great combination of fruity and herbal associations. Almost a bit medicinal. The typical Foursquare coconut note is rather discreet in the background. Quite dry and spicy on the palate. Very pleasant drinking strength.After 30 minutes in the air, a great complexity unfolds.

Puh … Foursquare wird ja immer als nicht sehr vielschichtig und zu gleichbleibend kritisiert. Auch von mir oft. Jetzt ist hier mal einer, der anders ist. Hmm … aber irgendwie war er nicht so meins. Recht anstrengend. Hätte blind nie auf Barbados getippt und hab beim Tasting auch zwei mal kontrolliert, ob ich nicht aus Versehen den Clarendon im Göas hab 😂 Interessant ja, auch sehr gut, aber für mich kein Feel Good Rum.

Good rum overall, but nothing more. The nose is really nice, very pastry-like. And it's a little different from the classic foursquare profile. On the palate, unfortunately, it's a little more disappointing. I found it less complex, not very long on the palate.

Schwacher Foursquare. Leider ein wenig Medizinisch und flach. Die kokostöne könnten intensiver sein. Ein wenig verwässert. Habe schon bessere gehabt. Insgesamt leider unharmonisch. Von daher leider keine trinkempfehlung von mir.

Wow, super tasty Foursquare nose with very high fruit content such as apple and apricot. Chocolaty, spicy, roasty on the palate, with a relatively sharp sensation despite <50%. A dominant vanilla note remains. Never had such an old Foursquare in my glass! Delicious and well-rounded rum!

Rum Sponge - RumX-live-Tasting, und das an meinem Geburtstag, nice 😊 Nase: trotz der nur 47 % ist er schön intensiv, fruchtig, süßliche Zitrone mit Mandarine und unaufdringlicher Kokosnuss. Jetzt kommt noch eine leicht medizinische Note hinzu. Leicht Marzipan und dazu Sahnetoffee und Karamell. Am Ende deutlich rauchig. Gefällt mir gut. 8,5 Gaumen: Anders als die Nase, kaum Frucht, deutlich holzig, bitter und salzig-pfeffrig. Erst danach kommen Marzipan und Zitronenschale. Wirkt leicht speckig, medizinisch mit einem Hauch Kardamom. Leider etwas dünn zu Beginn, hinten raus kommt ihm aber das hohe Alter und die tiefe Reife mit einer schönen Aromenstabilität zu Gute. 8,1

Ein schöner alter foursquare der sich an der Nase sehr fruchtig gibt. Gefällt mir hier erstmal super. Am Gaumen mir dann etwas zu dünn aber dennoch ein Tropfen den man sich bedenkenlos jederzeit einschenken könnte 😋

Despite a very sexy datasheet, this rum is a bit too flat. Alcohol integration is quite poor on the palate. A pitty for such round profile. Rum Sponge is used to release much better bottlings.

Verkostet im Rahmen des April-Lottery-Tasting: Nach dem ersten Schnuppern musste ich erst noch einmal an der Flasche riechen, ob ich wirklich den richtigen Rum im Glas habe 😁 Die typische FS-Kokosnote konnte ich in keinster Weise ausmachen, dafür eher ein medizinischer Touch. Für mich ein sehr untypischer Foursquare, der leider nicht meinen Geschmack trifft.

Durchaus überraschend für einen Foursquare, entspricht dem gewohnten Profil nur teilweise. Trotz der langen Lagerung noch mit erstaunlich frischem Profil, in der Nase dominieren Früchte, medizinische Noten und dezente Holzanklänge. Am Gaumen tritt das Alter deutlicher in Erscheinung, leicht bittere Fasseinflüsse gesellen sich zu dezenter Süsse und erneut einer deutlichen fruchtigen Frische, die fast schon etwas forsch daherkommt. Insgesamt aber sehr angenehm zu trinken und eine sehr spannende Ergänzung im Spektrum der vielen Foursquares – definitiv ein etwas eigenständigeres Profil der Destillerie.

Probiert beim April-Lottery-RumX-Tasting mit Angus from Rum Sponge: Schöne fruchtig-süße Nase, die mich eher an Belize als Barbados erinnert. Am Gaumen trockener als erwartet, mit ordentlich Holz, aber nicht zu dominant und für 22 Jahre im Fass wohl angemessen bzw. fast schon überraschend wenig. Bleibt lange im Mund und hallt lange nach, erinnert dabei etwas an getrocknete Früchte. Ich würde fast sagen, Easy Sipper durch den vergleichsweise niedrigen ABV. Schöner und leichter Einstieg in das Tasting!

For me, a very clear Mount Gay profile in terms of taste. Alcohol could be a bit better integrated. Foursquare? No way! I don't even think I know a Foursquare from 2000.

Super impression sur ce FS. Aux marqueurs habituels s'ajoute un boisé qui, mêlé aux fruits et à la vanille, donnent une superbe impression. Un bel exemple pour moi du fait qu'il n'est pas nécessaire de titrer à 60° pour avoir des choses à dire.

Easy sipping FS, very fruity profile that lacks some of the more typical coconut notes. Well intefrated wood, wouldn’t have guessed the age. Great starting dram for the evening!

At first i had an impression of a Guyanese rum, with heavy herbs and some wood notes. After a while in the nose I get red fruit. On palette it's quite spicy at first, then it calms down and gets more herbal and salty. Overall profile not my favorite.
