Bristol Caroni Reserve Rum of Trinidad HTR 1998
What surprises people here is the freshness — under the tar, tyres and petrol there's a menthol-cool, minty streak and some fruit hiding at the end. It's a 1998 Caroni that several tasters call an easy sipper by Caroni standards: dirty enough to satisfy, but not aggressive. The reduction shows, though — a couple of members found it a touch thin and wished for a few more percent.

A rum tasted at Rum Depot in Berlin. The bottle is almost empty. Full Caroni nose, tires, petrol and tar with a surprising but very pleasant freshness. The palate has a clean attack, with notes of machine shop first, then comes the freshness (menthol?) sensed on the nose, fruit last. The finish is a little pale in comparison, with fruit and a woodiness that was barely present before. The empty glass shows a lovely balance between fruit and machine shop. A very fine Caroni, too bad its finish is a little weak.

Definitely the highlight of the online Bristol tasting. A not too smooth 98er, complex, slightly dirty notes, alcohol well integrated.

It has those typical dirty Caroni flavors, but not too overbearing like some other Caronis.

Very nice on the nose with a nice long lingering aftertaste. On the palate the reduction becomes noticeable in an A/B comparison versus FP Caronis from 98. All in all quite enjoyable - somewhat an easy sipper (when it comes to Caronis) which still delivers on the dirty notes and presents a round profile.

Has nice dirty Caroni notes and they also clearly predominate on the nose and palate. Alcohol is well integrated, but a few more percent would have done him good. It lacks a bit of power due to the alcohol reduction.
